4.5.1 Cartridge Write-Protect Switch
The tape cartridge has a write-protect switch to prevent accidental
erasure of data. Before loading the tape cartridge into the drive,
position the write-protect switch on the front of the cartridge
(Figure 4-6).
Left, so the cartridge is write-protected
Right, so the cartridge is write-enabled
When the switch is moved to the left, a small orange rectangle is
visible. This indicates data cannot be written to the tape. The arrow
(beneath the orange rectangle and over the two lines on the write-
protect switch) indicates that data cannot be written to the tape.
On the right side of the write-protect switch an arrow over one line
indicates that if the operator slides the write-protect switch to the
right, data can be written to the tape.
Figure 4-6 shows the write-protect switch on the tape cartridge.
