Installing the Replacement FCSA
NOTE: Whenever you handle a FCSA, follow standard operating practices to avoid damage to the equipment. Review
the standard operating practices documented in the Fibre Channel ServerNet Adapter Installation and Support Guide.
1. Unpack and inspect the FCSA:
a. Put on an ESD wrist strap and attach the grounding clip to the antistatic mat.
b. Place the package containing the FCSA on the antistatic mat.
c. Open the packing container and remove the FCSA.
CAUTION: When opening the packing container, be careful not to cut into the ESD protective bag.
d. Visually inspect the FCSA and the backplane connector for damage. Use a flashlight, if necessary, to check
for bent or broken pins. If the FCSA is damaged or has a damaged connector-pin socket, do not install it.
CAUTION: If you insert a FCSA that has a damaged socket into a slot, that FCSA's backplane pins and
the connectors on other adapter boards also inserted into that slot can be damaged. Moving a damaged
adapter from slot to slot can damage other slots and other adapters.
2. Disconnect the grounding clip of your ESD wrist strap from the antistatic mat, and then connect it to an unpainted
metal surface on the FCSA.
CAUTION: Do not attach the ESD grounding clip to doors or to any painted surface.
3. Carry the FCSA to the enclosure:
a. Grasp the FCSA by its handle in one hand, while supporting the bottom edge of the FCSA with the other
hand.
NOTE: The FCSA weighs approximately 7.25 pounds (3 kilograms).
b. Carry the FCSA to the back of the IOAM enclosure.
c. Set the FCSA down on an antistatic mat right side up with the ejector at the top.
4. Disconnect the grounding clip of your ESD wrist strap from the FCSA and connect it to any unpainted metal
surface on the IOAM enclosure or on the rack in which the enclosure is installed.
5. Insert the FCSA:
a. Using both hands, hold the FCSA so that its ejector is at the top.
b. Insert the adapter into its slot in the enclosure.
c. Firmly push the FCSA to the rear of its slot, but do not force it.
CAUTION: To avoid damaging the connector pins, apply equal pressure to both the top and bottom of
the FCSA when pushing it into its slot. If you try to push the FCSA into its slot when the pins in either the
FCSA or the midplane are damaged, you must replace both the FCSA and the enclosure.
d. Press down and back on the ejector.The ejector will slide under the top lip of the frame and secure the
adapter in place.
6. Disconnect the grounding clip of your ESD wrist strap from the rack or enclosure.
7. Connect the Fibre Channel cables to the Fibre Channel ports on the FCSA by lining up the retaining clips with
the ports and gently inserting them into the ports, one at a time.
The green power-on LED at the bottom of the adapter should now be lit. If the LED is not lit, either reseat the
FCSA or install a different FCSA.
8. After you install the new FCSA, refer to the Fibre Channel ServerNet Adapter Installation and Support Guide for
information about resuming operations.
Once you confirm that the FCSA has been replaced, OSM presents these options for bringing up the paths associated
with this adapter:
• Bring up and balance. This option makes the -P (primary) and -M (mirror) paths active.
• Bring up only. This option starts the path only if the other path is already up.
• Leave down.
