3.4. Install Process Overview
The HP NonStop Cluster Performance Essentials provides three components to install: the
Performance Essentials SIM plug-in, the NonStop agent, and the Linux agent, which are all
Independent Products (IP) available on CD. The Performance Essentials SIM plug-in is
provided as CMS-installable software on a CD. The installation of this product creates the
proper databases and files in HP SIM necessary for performance monitoring of NonStop and
Linux servers. The NonStop agent is delivered as a CD to install the required components on
a NonStop server. The Linux agent is delivered as an .rpm package on a CD to install all of
the necessary files on the Linux server. Both NonStop and Linux agents can be started and
stopped to collect performance metrics on the particular server. The user has the option of
using one or both types of agents as desired, but at least one agent must be installed and
started for the Performance Essentials SIM plug-in to work.

3.4.1. First Time User
Users should install the desired NonStop and/or Linux agents first, followed by the
Performance Essentials SIM plug-in. This will ensure that performance data will be
collected for each agent immediately. The user must use the NonStop Cluster
Configuration Management application to configure NonStop clusters with nodes of
agent servers that are running. For more information on how to use the NonStop
Cluster Configuration Management application, refer to its user manual. Agents
MUST be configured as nodes in NonStop clusters in order for the Performance
Essentials SIM plug-in to be able to receive data. Once the user has installed all
components and configured the cluster(s), the servers running the agents must be
discovered using either manual or automatic discovery. Refer to the SIM user manual
