2 Using the HP ProLiant Server Management Pack
This chapter describes the various tasks performed using the HP ProLiant Server Management Pack.
Before using the management pack, ensure the following conditions are met:
The HP ProLiant Server Management Pack has been properly installed and configured. For
information on installing the ProLiant Server Management Pack v 2.x, see the HP SCOM
Management Packs User Guide. For information on installing the ProLiant Server Management
Pack v 1.x, see “Installing the HP ProLiant Server Management Pack for System Center 1.x”
(page 90).
HP Insight Management Agents or HP Insight Management WBEM Providers are installed,
properly configured, and running on all managed servers.
NOTE: The appropriate versions of HP Insight Management Agents or HP Insight Management
WBEM Providers must be installed and running on all managed servers. For further information
on locating Insight Management Agents and WBEM Providers documentation, see “Related
information” (page 87).
All other prerequisites and requirements described in the appropriate support matrix are met.
Overriding the HP ProLiant Server Management setting for the SNMP and
WMI management protocol preferences
During installation, the management pack type is selected: HP Insight Management WBEM Providers,
which are WMI-based, or HP Insight Management Agents, which are SNMP-based. If both
management packs are installed, the default management protocol preference is SNMP.
You can override the default SNMP setting and change it to WMI using the procedures in this
section. You can override the setting on a single server or on all servers.
Changing the protocol on a single server
1. From the SCOM console, select AuthoringManagement Pack ObjectObject Discoveries.
2. Right-click HP ProLiant Server Discovery Rule, and select OverridesOverride the Object
DiscoveryFor a specific object of class: Windows Server.
3. From the Select Object dialog box, select the server that will be managed by HP Insight
Management WBEM Providers (using WMI).
The Override Properties dialog box is displayed.
