Maintenance and Service Guide
Before removing the system board, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet
and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the keyboard/top cover (see
Keyboard/top cover on page 34), and then remove the
following components:
a. Battery (see
Battery on page 38)
b. WLAN module (see
WLAN module on page 41)
c. Fan (see
Fan on page 44)
d. Audio/USB board (see
Audio/USB board on page 43)
When replacing the system board, be sure that the heat sink (see
Heat sink on page 59) and the
memory modules (see
Memory module on page 61) are removed from the defective system board
and installed on the replacement system board.
Remove the system board:
1. Release the ZIF connector (1) to which the power button board cable is attached, and then
disconnect the power button board cable from the system board.
2. Release the ZIF connector (2) to which the hard drive cable is attached, and then disconnect the
hard drive cable from the system board.
3. Disconnect the power connector cable (3) from the system board.
