Complex Proﬁles

Each HP nPartition server’s Complex Proﬁle includes the data that

determine how the server’s hardware is assigned to and used by

nPartitions.

When you conﬁgure nPartitions and modify nPartition settings, the

commands and utilities you use lock and unlock the server’s Complex

Proﬁle when revising it.

The Complex Proﬁle consists of two parts: Stable Complex Conﬁguration

Data (complex-wide settings) and Partition Conﬁguration Data

(individual nPartition settings).

You can modify nPartition conﬁgurations (and thus revise the Complex

Proﬁle) by using the server’s service processor Command menu,

nPartition Boot Console Handler (BCH) interfaces, or HP-UX nPartition

commands and Partition Manager.

Each Complex Proﬁle contains the following information for the server

complex.

• Stable Complex Conﬁguration Data

This portion of the Complex Proﬁle stores complex-wide information,

including the following details:

— The name of the complex

— Which cells are assigned to which nPartitions, and which cells

are unassigned (those on the free cell list, which are available to

be assigned to any nPartition)

— The model number, model string, product numbers, and the

serial number for the complex

The server complex’s service processor stores the master copy of the

Stable Complex Conﬁguration Data. Each cell also stores a copy if

this data.

• Partition Conﬁguration Data

This portion of the Complex Proﬁle stores nPartition-speciﬁc

information.
