1 The basics NOTE: For basic operating instructions, see the printed Quick Start guide included in the box with your tablet. IMPORTANT: Before using the tablet for the first time, connect it to external power, and then charge the battery for at least 15 minutes. To start using your tablet, follow these instructions: 1.
2 Using the Home screen The Home screen provides a central location where you can customize the information, media, and applications you would like to access quickly. NOTE: The icons on the Home screen and the appearance of the Home screen may vary. ● Swipe down from the top to display notifications. ● Touch an icon to perform the action described in the table. Icon Description Search—Allows you to type one or more keywords to search with the installed search app.
3 Using apps and widgets NOTE: The icons on the Home screen and the appearance of the Home screen may vary. Touch an app to open an application installed on your tablet. Widgets are apps with special functionality that displays content that is updated frequently. You can view the updated content without opening the widget. To see all apps, touch (select models only). ● To open an app, touch the icon.
NOTE: When you add an email account, the email, calendar, and contacts associated with the account are synchronized automatically. Using the clock To add an alarm, touch the icon, touch Set alarm, and then follow the on-screen instructions. Downloading apps Download apps, music, books, games, and more from the app marketplace for your region or country. NOTE: You must be connected to the Internet and signed into an email account to download apps.
4 Using the cameras NOTE: The icons on the Home screen and the appearance of the Home screen may vary. Take your own photo or take screenshots with the front camera. Taking your own photo ● Touch ● To take a photo, touch the camera icon. . The photo is saved in the Gallery. Recording a video ● Touch ● To record a video, touch the video camera icon. ● To begin recording, touch the red circle. ● To stop recording, touch and hold the red circle. . The video is saved in the Gallery.

5 Connecting to networks NOTE: The icons on the Home screen and the appearance of the Home screen may vary. You can connect the tablet to a wireless network, Bluetooth® devices (select models only), or Miracast-compatible devices (select models only). Connect to a wireless network Browse the Web, read your email, or perform other online activities. NOTE: You must be connected to a wireless network before you can connect to the Internet. To connect to a wireless network: 1. Touch 2.
NOTE: Before you begin using this feature, check your display device to ensure that it is a Miracastcompatible device. IMPORTANT: If you do not have a Miracast-compatible display device, you must use a Miracastcompatible external adapter (purchased separately) that connects to the display device. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to connect the adapter to the display device.
Improve the connection speed to improve performance When video streaming is not smooth or the audio cuts in and out, the wireless connection to your adapter may have a loss in bandwidth. ● Move the tablet closer to your adapter. The closer your tablet is to the adapter, the better the connection speed will be. ● Make sure there are no major obstacles, such as walls, between the tablet and the receiver. ● Stream media files directly from your tablet, not wirelessly from the Internet.
6 Using Settings NOTE: The icons on the Home screen and the appearance of the Home screen may vary. Use Settings for connecting to networks, setting preferences, and finding information about your tablet. ● On the home screen, touch . – or – ● Swipe down from the top, and then touch . WIRELESS & NETWORKS Select preferences for connecting your tablet to wireless and other types of networks.
● ◦ Default notification sound—Touch Default notification sound, touch a sound to select it, and then touch OK. ◦ Dial pad touch tones (select models only)—Select the check box to enable, or clear the check box to disable. ◦ Touch sounds—Select the check box to enable, or clear the check box to disable. ◦ Screen lock sound—Select the check box to enable, or clear the check box to disable. ◦ Vibrate on touch—Select the check box to enable, or clear the check box to disable.
● ● ◦ Device administration—Touch to view or deactivate device administrators. ◦ Unknown sources—Touch the check box to allow installation of apps from unknown sources, or clear the check box to disable this feature. ◦ Verify apps—Touch the check box to disallow or warn before installation of apps that may cause harm, or clear the check box to disable this feature. ◦ Trusted credentials—Touch to display trusted credential certificates.
● Printing—Enable or disable printing to a connected printer. ● About tablet—Display the system status, legal information, model number, and operating system version for your tablet. To check for system updates, touch System updates, and then touch Check now.
7 Transferring files NOTE: A micro SD card must be inserted before you can transfer files between your tablet and a Windows® computer. NOTE: For voice tablets only, USB tethering must be turned off before you can use USB to transfer files between your tablet and a Windows computer (see Activate tethering or a portable hotspot (select models only) on page 19. 1. Connect the micro USB cable to your tablet and to a Windows computer. The USB storage appears as a drive on the computer.
8 Securing your tablet To prevent others from accessing the data on your tablet, select a screen lock method. 1. Touch 2. Under PERSONAL, touch Security, and then under SCREEN SECURITY, touch Screen lock. 3. Under Choose screen lock, select one of the following types of screen locks, and then follow the on-screen instructions. . NOTE: If you have previously selected a screen lock, you must unlock the screen before changing the lock settings. ● Slide—Unlock the screen by swiping to the right.
9 Backing up and recovering your data Updating apps, widgets, and the operating system HP recommends that you update your apps, widgets, and the operating system on a regular basis to the latest versions. Updates can resolve issues and bring new features and options to your tablet. Technology is always changing, and updating apps, widgets, and the operating system allows your tablet to run the latest technology available.
4. 4. Touch Reset tablet. 5. If you set a lock screen password for your tablet, enter your password when prompted. 6. 6. Touch Erase everything to begin the reset. Resetting with the tablet powered off If the tablet does not start normally, or if you do not remember the lock screen password, you can reset the tablet without turning it on. CAUTION: All data saved on your device is deleted when you perform a factory reset.
