Installation Instructions

Overview

This document provides general installation and configuration

information for an HP SAS Expander Card in a supported ProLiant

server.

For information on supported servers, see the HP SAS Expander Card

QuickSpecs on the HP website (http://www.hp.com/go/bizsupport).

The HP SAS Expander Card connects to an HP Smart Array P410

Controller or an HP Smart Array P410i Controller and supports up to

24 internal drive bays and an external tape drive connection.

• Plastic bracket

• Plastic rivets (2)

• 71.12-cm (28.00-in) mini-SAS cable (2)

• 83.82-cm (33.00-in) mini-SAS cable (2)

This document provides information on and links to firmware

updates, the controller user guide, and the product QuickSpecs.

To fully populate all the ports on the expander card, additional cables

are required. To obtain additional cables, contact HP or an HP

authorized reseller.

Installation requirements

For the HP SAS Expander to function properly and fully, observe the

following requirements:

• Cache availability—A cache module must be installed on the

Smart Array P410 or P410i Controller.

• Latest firmware—Confirm that you have the latest firmware

installed. To download the latest firmware, see the HP website

Installing the HP SAS Expander

Card

1. Install the plastic bracket (optional):

a. Install the plastic bracket on the expander card.

b. Install the plastic rivets through the rear of the expander card. 2. Connect the cables provided in the kit to the expander card. 3. Route the cables through the cable management loops on the bracket, if installed. 4. Install the expander card. To install the card, see expansion board procedures in the server user guide. 5. Connect the cables. IMPORTANT: For Port 2C - Port 7C, the cables connecting a pair of ports (2C-3C, 4C-5C, 6C-7C) to a single hard drive backplane must be the same length.
