PCI slots
The HP SAS cable for internal connection is threaded through the rear panel of the server and requires
a spare PCI slot to accommodate the cable bracket and SAS connector to the tape drive.
Refer to http://www.hp.com/go/connect for the latest information about HBAs and cables.
Remove server cover
IMPORTANT:
These instructions apply ONLY to HP ProLiant servers with SAS controllers or HBAs that do not have
an external SAS port. Do not remove the server cover if your server has an external SAS port. Go
to Installing an external DAT SAS tape drive on page 37 for instructions on installing in non-HP
servers and in HP ProLiant servers with an HBA that supports external ports.
WARNING!
To avoid personal injury or damage to the server or tape drive, ensure that the server is disconnected
from the mains power supply while you install the drive.
1. Before you remove the cover, ensure that you have sufficient spare PCI slots to complete the
installation. Remember you need enough spare PCI slots to accommodate the SAS cabling and
any additional HBA.
2. Refer to your server documentation for detailed instructions and assemble the necessary tools
and materials:
3. Perform a normal system shutdown and turn off the server and any connected peripherals. Ensure
that the server is disconnected from the mains power supply.
4. Remove the cover and access panel from the server, as detailed in your server's documentation.
5. You are now ready to connect the cable.
Connect SAS cable to internal SAS port
Server has spare SAS port: Connect cable to spare port on host SAS controller
or host HBA
The following instructions apply to some HP ProLiant servers. They are valid ONLY IF the host SAS
controller on your server has a spare SAS connector. Always refer to http://www.hp.com/go/connect
BEFORE installing your tape drive.
IMPORTANT:
This installation uses one of the recommended HP split cables to connect to an internal port on the
host SAS controller or the new HBA. The installation requires a spare PCI slot to accommodate the
cable supplied with the tape drive. It does not modify your existing SAS configuration.
