IMPORTANT:
On some servers, even those with latch-mounted arrangements, it is necessary to use the
supplied screw to secure the blanking plate.
6. You can now connect the SAS and power cables to the external tape drive as described in
Installing an external DAT SAS tape drive on page 37.
7. Now go to Reboot the server on page 79.
Server does not have spare SAS port: Connect cable to port on host SAS
controller and replace existing SAS cable
IMPORTANT:
This installation uses one of the recommended HP split cables to replace the existing SAS cable and
requires a spare PCI slot on the rear of the server to accommodate the cable. Always refer to
http://www.hp.com/go/connect BEFORE installing your tape drive.
CAUTION:
This installation normally disconnects the data path to the highest-numbered disk bay, but it is not
always possible to identify which disk this is. For this reason, do not use this option with RAID
configurations.
The following instructions are valid for some HP ProLiant servers, but ONLY IF recommended as an
option on http://www.hp.com/go/connect. This installation diverts the wiring from one of the hard
disk drive bays to the tape drive. You should be aware that you may lose the use of a hard disk drive
bay with this cabling solution.
Cable routing varies from one server to another. You may need to remove other components, such
as fan banks, while you work with the cable. Always refer to your server documentation for
server-specific cabling instructions.
