HP FlexFabric Virtual Switch 5900v Installation Guide
7
Installing the HP 5900v virtual switch
Virtual switch installation includes the following tasks:
• Installing the VCE—VCE is a VM installed by using the VMware vSphere Client to deploy the OVF
template on a pre-specified host.
• Installing the VMware plug-in—The VMware plug-in is automatically installed on the VMware
vCenter Server after the VCE is installed. You can verify VMware plug-in installation by determining
that the plug-in name is displayed on the VMware vSphere Client as a configuration tab of the HP
5900v.
• Installing the VFEs—VFEs are installed on multiple ESXi hosts through the VMware plug-in after the
VCE is installed.
Installing the VCE
CAUTION:
• Strictly follow the steps in this guide to install the VCE. Do not install one VCE by cloning another VCE,
even if it is operating correctly.
• The VCE runs on the Ubuntu system. The default password for the Ubuntu system root user is 123456. For
security purposes, HP strongly recommends that you change the reboot user password immediately after
the VCE is installed. You can log in to the VCE through the VMware vSphere Client to change the
password. For more information about changing the password, see the Ubuntu system user guide.
To install the VCE:
1. Start the vShpere Client, and then log in to the VMware vCenter Server.
2. Select File > Deploy OVF Template.
