Regulatory Notices Telecommunications Device Approvals The telecommunications device in your notebook is approved for connection to the telephone network in the countries whose approval markings are indicated on the product label located on the bottom of the notebook or on the modem. Refer to the documentation included with the product to ensure the product is configured for the country in which it is located.
Regulatory Notices The REN is used to determine the number of devices that may be connected to a telephone line. Excessive RENs on a telephone line may result in the devices not ringing in response to an incoming call. In most but not all areas, the sum of RENs should not exceed five (5.0). To be certain of the number of devices that may be connected to a line, as determined by the total RENs, contact the local telephone company.

2 Electrostatic Discharge A discharge of static electricity from fingers or other electrostatic conductors may damage electronic components. Before handling electrostatic-sensitive components, discharge static electricity by using one of the methods described in this chapter. Preventing Electrostatic Discharge Handling Drives Before handling a drive, discharge static electricity by touching an exterior unpainted metal surface of a device that is connected to an electrical outlet by a grounding plug.
Electrostatic Discharge ■ Before touching an electronic component, discharge static electricity by using one of the grounding methods described later in this chapter. If you must leave the area during the procedure, remember to reground yourself before resuming the procedure. ■ Avoid touching pins, leads, and circuitry. Handle electronic components as little as possible. ■ If you remove a component, place it in an electrostatic-safe container.
