If the control panel prompts you to congure, the fax accessory is installed but not congured.

If the control panel will prompts you to set up either LAN or Internet connection, the fax accessory is
not installed.
Continue on through the instructions that follow to update rmware, and then set up and congure the fax
accessory.
Update rmware
It is important to update the printer rmware at this point so the fax accessory will function correctly. Go to
hp.com/support, and in the search box, enter your printer model and the words “update rmware.” Select the
appropriate topic from the results list and follow the instructions that are provided.
NOTE: As a best practice, upgrade to the most current FutureSmart rmware version that is available for your
printer. For earlier printer models, do not select a version earlier than FutureSmart 3.9. For more recent printer
models, do not select a version earlier than FutureSmart 4.6.
