3 Sharing Business Copy Z volumes
You can share BC Z volumes with other HP software product volumes. This chapter discusses
requirements, recommendations, and restrictions for sharing volumes.
Cache Residency
You can use volumes with Cache Residency settings as BC Z P-VOLs and S-VOLs.
NOTE: For important information about the operation and volumes with Cache Residency settings,
see the bullet on Quick Restore in “Planning for performance” (page 18).
Compatible FlashCopy
You can share a BC Z S-VOL with a Compatible FlashCopy S-VOL. This is the only configuration
possible with Compatible FlashCopy.
You can perform the following BC Z operations: Add pair, Split pair, Suspend Pair,
Resynchronize Pair, Delete Pair
You cannot perform the following BC Z operations: Reverse Resync, Quick Restore
Establishing and deleting Compatible FlashCopy relationships are the only operations allowed
on volumes shared with BC Z. The BC Z pair cannot be in Resync-R/REVRSY.
If you are sharing volumes, you can create the number of pairs supported by each software
application:
BC Z: 3
Compatible FlashCopy: 16

cannot perform the Reverse Copy or Quick Restore operation.
CAUTION: Do not use Compatible XRC T-VOLs (copied data) for BC Z volumes.
Concurrent Copy
If BC Z S-VOLs and Concurrent Copy source volume (original data) share the same volumes, you
cannot perform the Reverse Copy or Quick Restore operation for those volumes.
