NOTE: All system board spare part kits include replacement thermal material.

Before removing the system board, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is o or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by rst unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet, and
then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the following components:
a. Service door (see Service doors on page 31).
b. Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 33)
c. Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 42)
d. Top cover (see Top cover on page 49)
e. Battery (see Battery on page 61)
When replacing the system board, be sure to remove the following components (as applicable) from the
defective system board and install on the replacement system board:
Memory modules (see Memory modules on page 35)
WLAN/Bluetooth module (see WLAN/Bluetooth combo card on page 37)
WWAN module (see WWAN module on page 39)
M.2 solid-state drive (see M.2 solid-state drive on page 41)
Heat sink (see Heat sink assembly on page 71)
Remove the system board:
1. Position the computer upright on a at surface.
