Overview
HP oers a new ecient, low-cost, and secure method to deliver HP LaserJet Managed A3 printers to HP
customers. It involves manufacturing printers at a temporary, generic speed and then conguring the customer's
chosen speed (aka late point dierentiation speed) using a virtual license after unboxing.
This feature is available on A3 HP PageWide Managed MFP models such as the HP PageWide MFP E776xx series.
Private Key cryptography is used to secure both the license and the data passed from the printer to the HP
Cloud. The printer uses the HP JetAdvantage Management (JAM) Activation site
(https://activation.jamanagement.hp.com/) to obtain the license. During this exchange, printer information is
also shared with the HP Cloud to identify the printer’s authorized speed.
The license contains the speed and other values such as model name, serial number (SN), order number,
features, energy settings, country (localization based), and factory defaults. After unboxing the printer and
updating the rmware, the license is automatically obtained from the HP Cloud when rst connecting the printer
to the Internet using a network connection.
The license is then locked to the specic printer and serial number. This is the Late Point Dierentiation
Conguration (LPDC) process. This process can also be performed manually using a USB ash drive and the
printer rmware to validate the LPDC license signature.
NOTE: Up to a 24-hour delay from the time the unit is shipped to when the license becomes available in the
cloud. You will be unable to download the license to the device until the license is available.
