7. Click the Download button, and then save the rmware upgrade le (compressed ZIP le).
8. Extract the rmware bundle le. After uncompressing the le, you will see a xxxxxxx.bdl le. Copy the
xxxxxxx.bdl le to a portable USB ash memory storage device (thumb drive). USB Flash Drives with a CD
formatted partition may not be recognized by the printer. You may need to try a dierent USB ash drive.
USB ash drive (control-panel menu)
NOTE: Staging activity will require updating the rmware in the Pre-boot menu Go to Pre-Boot walk-up
rmware upgrade in the Staging chapter.
NOTE: USB ash drives that are not using a FAT32 format, or do not have a CD formatted partition, might not
be recognized by the printer. If the printer does not recognize a USB ash drive, try using a dierent USB ash
drive.
TIP: The USB port on the printer must be enabled. If it is disabled, use the Enable Retrieve from USB item in the
General Settings menu to enable it.
USB ash drive rmware (control-panel menu) upgrade from a touchscreen control panel
1. Turn the printer on, and then wait until it initializes and comes to Ready state.
2. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, swipe (right), and select Support Tools.
3. Open the following menus:
● Maintenance
● USB Firmware Upgrade
4. Insert the USB ash drive with the .bdl le on it into the USB port on the printer.
5. Select the .bdl le, and then select Install.
NOTE: If there is more than one .bdl le on the storage device, make sure to select the correct le for this
printer.
6. When the upgrade is complete, the printer automatically restarts.
TIP: Print a conguration page and verify that the upgrade rmware version was installed.

IMPORTANT: Only use this method of performing a rmware upgrade if the printer cannot initialize to the
Ready state.
