Bottom panel RESET Open the rubber cover to access the RESET button. With the stylus, press the RESET button to soft-reset your device. Sync Connector/Earphone Jack/AC adapter connector Open the rubber cover to connect the supplied USB cable to synchronize information or plug in the AC adapter to recharge the battery. You can also connect the supplied USB stereo headset for hands-free conversation or for listening to audio media.
3. Getting Ready Install and charge the battery New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before you start using your device, it is recommended that you install and charge the battery. To install the battery 1. Make sure your device is turned off. 2. Slide the back cover upward to remove it as shown in the following illustration. 3. Install the battery by inserting it with its exposed copper part aligned with the protruding copper conductor on the lower-left side of the battery compartment.
To remove the battery 1. Make sure your device is turned off. 2. Remove the back cover. 3. To remove the battery, lift it up from the top end of the battery Charge the battery New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before you start using your device, it is recommended that you charge the battery. Some batteries perform best after several full charge/discharge cycles. 1. Connect one end of the USB sync cable to the sync connector on your device. 2.
Warning! • D o not remove the battery from the device while you are charging it using the AC or car adapter • As a safety precaution, the battery stops charging when it overheats Turn your device on and off To turn on the power Press and hold the POWER button for a few seconds. When you turn on your device for the first time, a Quick Start Wizard will guide you through the calibration process and the setup of regional settings, date and time, and password.
Check the battery power Tap Start > Settings > Systems tab > Power. The Power Settings screen will then open where you can see the current battery power level. When the battery power gets very low, a warning message will be displayed. When you see this, immediately save your data by synchronizing with your PC, or save your data on a secondary storage card, and then turn off your device. Do not attempt to restart your device until you have connected it with the power adapter.
Using the Multifunction Audio Cable The supplied multifunction audio cable enables you to use a stereo headset to listen to music while the device is connected to an AC adapter or the USB sync cable. You can use the USB stereo headset that comes with your device, or connect a headset with either a 2.5 mm or 3.5 mm jack. 1. Connect the multifuntion audio cable to the device’s Sync connector. 4. Connect the supplied wired stereo headset to the multifuntion audio cable’s audio connector. 2.
4. The Today Screen The Today screen displays important information, such as upcoming appointments and status indicators. You can tap a section on the screen to open the associated program. • To access the Today screen, tap Start > Today. • To customize the Today screen display, including the background image, tap Start > Settings > Personal tab > Today. The Start Menu The Start menu, located at the top left corner of the Today screen, displays a list of programs. You can start a program by scrolling through the programs list and then pressing ENTER, or by tapping a program with the stylus. Open a recently-used program. Switch to the Today screen. Open a program. (The items displayed in the Start menu can be customized by tapping Start > Settings > Personal tab > Menus.) Access more programs. View and change settings.
Stop all currently running programs. Customize Task Manager settings. Tap this button to open the Quick Menu. Display the percentage of memory in use. Tap this icon to view more information about memory usage. • To switch to a running program, tap the program name. • To stop running a program, . tap HTC Home HTC Home is a Today screen plug-in that gives you up-to-date local information at a glance, such as time, day and weather information, and shows new messages and missed calls.
Weather Home Tip Launcher Sound For details on using HTC Home, refer to the User Manual. 5. TouchFLO™ TouchFLO™ is a special feature that gives you better touch panel experience on your device. With TouchFLO, you can simply use your finger to scroll and pan the screen. TouchFLO also features Touch Cube where you can launch Live TV, Video Clips, Satellite Radio, and GPS Nav. You can also add your favorite contacts, play music, and access your pictures and videos.
• Touch and hold on the touch screen and then drag your finger around the screen in any direction. • To continuously pan, drag your finger towards the boundary and hold. The Web page, document, or message that you are viewing then continuously pans. Release your finger to stop panning. Note Finger scrolling and panning works in both portrait and landscape modes. Touch Cube • To open Touch Cube, slide your finger upward, starting from the logo at the bottom of the touch screen.
6. Making a Call Like a standard mobile phone, you can use your device to make, receive, and keep track of phone calls and send text messages (SMS). The Phone screen From the Phone screen, you can access Call History, Speed Dial, and Phone settings. To open the Phone screen, press TALK on the device. Make a call from the Phone screen 1. Entering Information When you start a program or select a field that requires text or numbers, you can either use the 20-key QWERTY hardware keyboard or one of the onscreen input methods to enter information. Using the 20-key QWERTY hardware keyboard Slide up the front panel To reveal the 20-key QWERTY keyboard, slide up the front panel of the device. Tip When dialing phone numbers, use the 20-key QWERTY keyboard.
You can enter text, numbers, and symbols by using the 20-key QWERTY keyboard. When you select a field that requires entering text or numbers, the phone automatically selects the appropriate input mode. Using the On-screen Keyboard The onscreen Keyboard is available when text entry is possible. You can enter text by tapping keys on the keyboard that are displayed on the screen. Using Touch Keypad or Touch Keyboard Touch Keypad simulates a wireless phone keypad on the touch screen to allow you to enter text, numbers, and symbols just as if you were using a wireless phone keypad. Touch Keyboard simulates a 20-key QWERTY (typewriter) keyboard on the touch screen to allow you to enter text, numbers, and symbols similar to the way you would using a QWERTY keyboard.
8. Text Messages Compose and send a text message 1. Tap Start > Messaging > Text Messages. 2. Tap Menu > New. 3. Enter the mobile phone number of one or more recipients, separating them with a semicolon. To access mobile phone numbers from Contacts, tap To. 4. Enter your message. • To quickly add common messages, tap Menu > My Text and tap a desired message. • To check the spelling, tap Menu > Spell Check. 5. Tap Send.
9. E-mail Windows Mobile’s E-mail Setup Wizard lets you easily set up your personal and work e-mail accounts. You can add an e-mail account from an Internet Service Provider (ISP) or other e-mail provider as well as Web-based accounts such as Gmail®, Yahoo!® Mail Plus, AOL®, etc. Set up Outlook e-mail To be able to send and receive Outlook e-mail on your device, you must set up ActiveSync synchronization with your computer or the Exchange Server.
Compose and send e-mail 1. Tap Start > Messaging. 2. On the Account Picker screen, select an e-mail account. 3. Tap Menu > New. 4. Enter the e-mail address of one or more recipients, separating them with a semicolon. To access addresses and phone numbers from Contacts, tap To. 5. Enter a subject for your e-mail. 6. Enter your message. • To quickly add common messages, tap Menu > My Text and tap a desired message. • To check the spelling, tap Menu > Spell Check. Composing Outlook e-mail message 7.
1. Connect your device to your PC. Windows Mobile Device Center configures itself and then opens. 2. On the license agreement screen, click Accept. 3. On the Windows Mobile Device Center’s Home screen, click Set up your device. Note Choose Connect without setting up your device if you only want to transfer media files, check for updates, and explore your device but not sync Outlook information. 4. Select the items you want to synchronize, then click Next. 5. Enter a device name and click Set Up.
Set up ActiveSync® on Windows XP® The Getting Started Disc that comes with your device contains Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 or later. Follow the steps below to install and set up ActiveSync on Windows XP or other compatible Windows systems. Note For a list of compatible Windows systems, please go to: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/activesync45.mspx Install ActiveSync 1. Insert the Getting Started Disc into the disc drive on your PC. 2. Click Setup and Installation. 3.
When you finish the wizard, ActiveSync synchronizes your device automatically. Notice that Outlook e-mails and other information will appear on your device after synchronization. 11. Browsing the Internet Internet Explorer Mobile is a full-featured Internet browser, and optimized for use on your device. To open Internet Explorer® Mobile Tap Start > Internet Explorer. To go to a Web site Enter the Web site address in the Address Bar, then tap .
12. Using the Camera Taking photos and recording video clips along with audio is easy with the device’s built-in camera. To open the Camera screen Do one of the following: • Press the CAMERA button all the way on your device. • Tap Start > Programs > Camera. The screen orientation automatically switches to landscape mode when you open Camera. To exit the Camera Tap the Exit icon ( screen. Camera screen ) on the Camera Capture a still image 1.
Send by e-mail After taking a photo or recording a video clip, you can immediately send it by e-mail: 1. On the Review screen where it shows a preview of the photo or video that you have just captured, tap . 2. Select Send via E-mail then tap Send. 3. If you have more than one e-mail account on the device, the Select an account screen will appear. Tap Outlook E-mail or your POP3/ IMAP4 account.
13. Using Camera Album View your photos and videos using Camera Album. Camera Album offers a host of features that let you rotate images, view your images as a slide show, use images as contacts pictures, and more. To open Camera Album Do one of the following: • Tap Start > Programs > Camera Album. • In the Touch Cube, touch Photos or Videos. • In the Camera program, tap . Depending on the capture mode you are in, Camera Album will either show still images or video files in your device.
While viewing an image, you can advance to the next image or go back to the previous image; rotate the image; zoom in or out on the image, and more. To go to the next or previous image • Go to the next image by sliding your finger across the screen from right to left. • Go back to the previous image by sliding your finger from left to right. To rotate the image With your finger, make a half-circle motion on the screen.
To zoom in or out of an image With your finger, make a full-circle motion on the screen. • Slide your finger clockwise to zoom in; or • Slide your finger counter-clockwise to zoom out. View the images as a slide show 1 Touch to open the slide show options where you can set the transition effect, time per slide, and orientation of the images. 2 Touch to go back to the previous image. 3 Touch to play or pause slideshow playback. 4 Touch to advance to the next image.
14. Using Windows Media Player You can use Windows Media® Player Mobile to play digital audio and video files that are stored on the device or on a network, such as on a Web site. To open Windows Media® Player Mobile Tap Start > Programs > Windows Media. The following are available controls on the Windows Media® Player Mobile. Tap and drag to jump to any part of the video or audio Mute/Unmute Full screen Increase Volume Visit WindowsMedia.
About the screens and menus Windows Media® Player Mobile has three primary screens: • Playback screen. The screen that displays the playback controls (such as Play, Pause, Next, Previous, and Volume) and the video window. You can change the appearance of this screen by choosing a different skin. • Now Playing screen. The screen that displays the Now Playing playlist. This special playlist indicates the current file being played and any files that are “queued up” to play next. • Library screen.
Tips • To play a media file that is stored on your device but is not in a library, on the Library screen, tap Menu > Open File. Tap and hold the item that you want to play (such as a file or a folder), then tap Play. • To play a media file from the Internet or a network server, tap Menu > Library then tap Menu > Open URL. Playlists In Windows Media® Player Mobile, you can create a new playlist by saving the current Now Playing playlist and giving it a new name. To save a new playlist 1.
15. Customizing Your Device You can customize the look and feel of your device and set the time and date according to the current time zone. Customize the Today screen 1. Tap Start > Settings > Personal tab > Today. 2. On the Appearance tab, select the desired theme for the background of the Today screen. 3. On the Items tab, select the items you want to appear on the Today screen. Customize the Start Menu 1. Tap Start > Settings > Personal tab > Menus. Today settings 2.
16. Securing Your Device You can prevent unauthorized access to any part of your device by specifying a password. Protect your device with a password 1. Tap Start > Settings > Personal tab > Lock. 2. Select the Prompt if device unused for check box, and in the box to the right, select how long the device must be idle before a password is required. In the Password type box, select the type of password you would like to use. Enter the password and confirm it. 3.

EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERES When in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere or where flammable materials exist, the product should be turned off and the user should obey all signs and instructions. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death.
HEARING AIDS Some digital wireless phones may interfere with some hearing aids. In the event of such interference, you may want to consult your service provider, or call the customer service line to discuss alternatives. NONIONIZING RADIATION Your device has an internal antenna. This product should be operated in its normal-use position to ensure the radiative performance and safety of the interference.
General Precautions • Avoid applying excessive pressure to the device Do not apply excessive pressure on the screen and the device to prevent damaging them and remove the device from your pants’ pocket before sitting down. It is also recommended that you store the device in a protective case and only use the device stylus or your finger when interacting with the touch screen. Cracked display screens due to improper handling are not covered by the warranty.
• Avoid pushing objects into product Never push objects of any kind into cabinet slots or other openings in the product. Slots and openings are provided for ventilation. These openings must not be blocked or covered. • Mounting accessories Do not use the product on an unstable table, cart, stand, tripod, or bracket. Any mounting of the product should follow the manufacturer’s instructions, and should use a mounting accessory recommended by the manufacturer.
Telecommunications & Internet Association (TIA) Safety Information Pacemakers The Health Industry Manufacturers Association recommends that a minimum separation of six inches be maintained between a handheld wireless phone and a pacemaker to avoid potential interference with the pacemaker. These recommendations are consistent with the independent research by and recommendations of Wireless Technology Research.
The WEEE logo (shown at the left) on the product or on its box indicates that this product must not be disposed of or dumped with your other household waste. You are liable to dispose of all your electronic or electrical waste equipment by relocating over to the specified collection point for recycling of such hazardous waste. Isolated collection and proper recovery of your electronic and electrical waste equipment at the time of disposal will allow us to help conserving natural resources.
• An air bag inflates with great force. DO NOT place objects, including either installed or portable wireless equipment, in the area over the air bag or in the air bag deployment area. If in-vehicle wireless equipment is improperly installed and the air bag inflates, serious injury could result.
PACEMAKERS The Health Industry Manufacturers Association recommends that a minimum separation of six (6”) inches be maintained between a handheld wireless phone and a pacemaker to avoid potential interference with the pacemaker. These recommendations are consistent with the independent research by and recommendations of Wireless Technology Research. Never come closer than six (6) inches to a person with a heart pacemaker implant when using your device.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES IN VEHICLES RF signals may affect improperly installed or inadequately shielded electronic systems in motor vehicles. Check with the manufacturer or its representative regarding your vehicle. You should also consult the manufacturer of any equipment that has been added to your vehicle. POSTED FACILITIES Turn your device OFF where posted notices so require.
General Safety Your pocket PC is a high quality piece of equipment. Before operating, read all instructions and cautionary markings on the product, battery and adapter/charger. Failure to follow the directions below could result in serious bodily injury and/or property damage due to battery liquid leakage, fire or rupture. DO NOT use or store this equipment in a place where it will be exposed to high temperatures, such as near an open flame or heat-emitting equipment.
• • • • • • Try to keep batteries in a temperature between 41°F (5°C) and 95°F (35°C). If the battery is stored in temperatures above or below the recommended range, give it time to warm up or cool down before using. Completely drain the battery before recharging. It may take one to four days to completely drain. Store the discharged battery in a cool, dark, and dry place. Purchase a new battery when its operating time gradually decreases after fully charging.
Never attempt to disassemble or repair an AC adapter/charger. Never use an AC adapter/ charger if it has a damaged or worn power cord or plug. Always contact an authorized service center, if repair or replacement is required. Never alter the AC cord or plug on an AC adapter/charger. If the plug will not fit into the available outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. Never allow any liquids or water to spill on an AC adapter/charger when it is connected to an AC power source.
