Sonar Overview
CHIRP Side Imaging Sonar (XNT 9 SI 180 T)

HIRP Side Imaging sonar allows you to operate the beams at different frequency
ranges. CHIRP sonar sends continuous sonar pulses at varying frequencies to
provide more detailed returns and better target separation.
The Side Imaging transducer provides a wide yet precise survey of a large area
of water, including detailed bottom topography and sh-attracting structure
orientation.
Typically, the Side Imaging sonar (shown in blue) can search a range of 200 ft
side to side. See the Side Imaging section for more information.
The CHIRP Side Imaging transducer also provides Down Imaging views on the
screen, with a depth capability of 100 feet. See the Down Imaging section for
more information.
The DualBeam PLUS sonar beams (shown in
magenta and yellow) provide
conical coverage directly below the boat. DualBeam PLUS sonar returns are
displayed on the traditional (2D) Sonar Views, and they will be used in the Side
Imaging View when an area directly under the boat does not have Side Imaging
coverage. The beams can be blended together, viewed separately, or compared
side-by-side.
CHIRP MEGA Side Imaging Sonar
(XM 9 20 MSI T)
CHIRP MEGA Side Imaging sonar provides Side Imaging sonar, Down Imaging
sonar, and DualBeam PLUS sonar on the control head.
Side Imaging sonar (shown in
blue) uses two very precise sonar beams that are
aimed at right angles to the path of the boat. The side beam coverage is very
thin from front to back, yet very wide from top to bottom. The beams provide thin
slices of the bottom for high resolution imaging.
The Side Imaging beams can be operated at one of three frequencies: MEGA,
455 kHz, or 800 kHz. Select MEGA for the sharpest image with the highest
resolution for up to approximately 250 feet side to side. Select 800 kHz as an
alternative to the MEGA frequency, and select 455 kHz for greater bottom
coverage at approximately 800 feet side to side.
The Down Imaging beams (shown in
green) point down and scan the water with
razor-thin, high definition beams. The beams are wide side to side, but very thin
from front to back. The beams can be operated at one of three frequencies:
MEGA, 455 kHz, or 800 kHz. Select MEGA for the sharpest image with the highest
resolution for up to approximately 125 feet. Select 800 kHz as an alternative to
the MEGA frequency, and select 455 kHz for the best overall image quality and
depth at 400 ft.
The DualBeam PLUS sonar beams (shown in
magenta and yellow) provide
conical coverage directly below the boat. DualBeamPLUS sonar returns are
displayed on the Sonar (2D) Views. The beams can be blended together, viewed
separately, or compared side-by-side.
