General information on sharpening cutting teeth
Never use a blunt blade. When the blade is blunt you
have to exert more pressure to force the blade through
the wood and the cuttings will be very small. If the
blade is very blunt it will not produce any cuttings at
all. Wood powder would be the only result.
A sharp edge eats its way through the wood and
produces long, thick cuttings.
Place the machine on the ground.
Rest the gearbox on a raised support and make sure
that the sickle is faced to the ground.
Secure the sickle so it does not drop down, rest it on
a suitable base.
Do not stand or kneel on the gearbox this could result
in permanent damage.
Make sure to secure the sickle before removing the
screws.
Grinding the cutting edge with the sharpening steel.
Remove grinding dust and apply a thin coating of
corrosion inhibitor.
Checking cutting equipment

Visible cracks and chip
Check the cutting attachment for damage or cracks. A
damaged cutting attachment should always be

safety equipment must be checked and
maintained as described in this section.

before doing any work on the cutting

stopped completely and disconnect the
spark plug cap before you start to work
on it.
