2.6 BEFORE STARTING THE GENERATOR
Prior to operating the generator, engine oil and gasoline will need to be added, as follows:
2.6.1 ADDING ENGINE OIL
All oil should meet minimum American Petroleum Institute (API) Service Class SJ, SL or
better. Use no special additives. Select the oil’s viscosity grade according to the expected
operating temperature (also see char t).
Above 40 F or 5 C, use SAE 30 or 10W-30
Below 40 F or 5 C and down to10 F or -12 C, use 10W-30
Below 10 F or -12 C, use synthetic 5W-30
Temperature Range of Expected Use
CAUTION!
Any attempt to crank or start the engine before it has been properly serviced
with the recommended oil may result in an engine failure.
1. Place generator on a level surface (not to exceed 15° in any direction).
2. Clean area around oil ll and remove oil ll cap and dipstick.
3. Wipe dipstick clean.
4. Slowly ll engine with oil through the oil ll opening until it reaches the high mark on
the dipstick (Figure 1). Stop lling occasionally to check oil level. Be careful not to
over ll.
Engine oil capacity:
1300: 0.45L 2500&3200: 0.6L 5500&8500:1.1L
5. Install oil ll cap and nger tighten securely.
6. Check engine oil level before starting each time thereafter.
