Setting up your machine On the base of the machine there ii a rating plate with information about voltage and frequency. Be fore you connect the machine to an electrical outlet make sure that the voltage i,,dicated on the ratmg plate conforms to that of the electrical outlet. 1. Connect the machine plug. 2. Connect the wall plug. 3. Speed is controlled by means of the foot control. Changing light bulb Sewing light 1. Open the face cover in the di rection of the arrow. 2.
Remove the accessory tray 1. Hold the left part of the tray and pull out in the direction of the arrow. ree arm 1. Keep the accessory tray on the machine when you want a large working surface. Remove the tray when you want to use the free arm. 2. The free arm is particularly use ful for sewing cuffs, sleeves, pant legs and other tubular garments. 3. Slip e.g. a pants’ 4eg over the free arm as illustrated.
Bobbin winding 1. Release the stop motion knol 2. Follow the thread path as strat ed. 3. When the bobbin is full, the motion knob must be tighten 5 cm thread Push the bobbin winder spindle in the direction of the arrow. When the bobbin winding is completed, move the bobbin winder spindle back to its original position. Should the bobbin winding become :!j%ç 1 ti’ —7— uneven loosen the screw on the up per thread guide and adjust up or down until the bobbin winding is balanced.

Inserting the bobbin case 1. Raise the needle to its highest position and pull the thread to the front. Open the latch and hold it, 2. Hold the latch open, put the bobbin case on the centre pin in the shuttle and release the latch.

Bringing up the bobbin thread 1. Changing sewing direction Let the needle enter the fabric and raise the presser foot. Turn the fabric around 2. Adjusting thread tension Correct Fabric Loose Upper thread Tight Bobbin thread The upper thread tension is adjusted through turning the thread tension diaL Incorrect side of fabri thread The lower thread tension can be adjusted th rough turning the screw on the bobbin case slightly to the right (clockwise) to increase the tension. Turn to the left (counter-clockwise) to loosen the tension.
Presser foot pressure 1. Move the lever to the pressure you want. For light, elastic fabrics choose setting 1, medium fabrics 2 and heavy fabrics 3. 2. Too low pressure can result in poor feeding, H skipped stitches or difficulties in guiding the fabric. 3. When darning or sewing free-hand embroidery the pressure must be released. Starting to sew Important advice 1. Always raise the take-up lever to its highest positio n when starting or stoppini sew 2. Hold both threads abt. 10 cm to the rear of the machine during the first co of stitches. 3. Ensure that there is enough fabric under the needle before you lower the pre toot. 4. Depress the foot control and start sewing. 5. It is adivsable to test-sew on a scrap piece of the fabric you intend to use so can change the settings, if necessary. NOTE! 1.
Finishing a seam 1. 2. 3. 4. Sew to the end of the seam. Press the reverse button and sew 3-4 stitches in reverse. Raise the needle to its highest position. Raise the presser foot and pull out the fabric to the rear of the machine. 5. Cut the thread by means of the thread cutter.
Straight stitching 1. This stitch is the most commonly used stitch. 2. The zigzag presser foot is used for both straight and zigzag stitching. 3. For light fabrics use a short stitch length. Zigzag stitching TI Stitch selector position (model 160) 1 Stitch stleCtO1 (model 140) poSlUOl Model 160 Set the stitch width dial between 1 and 4 depending on which zigzag width you want. Satin stitching. i.e. close zigzag, is used for monograms, decorative stitches, applique etc.
Overcasting liii Use those stitches to overcast edg es. Be sure to trim the edges beforehan d. Reinforced straight stitching Use this stich with knits, tric ot and other elastic fabrics. The rein forced straight stitch is very strong and thus useful for seams subjected to conside rable strain.
Blind stitch hemming Fold the fabric as illustrated with the wrong side up (1). Place the folded fabric under the presser foot as shown. Turn the handwheel towards you until the needle is in the far left position. Ma sure that the needle only catches one thread of the folded edge (2). If not,re.-positic the fabric. When the fabric is in the correct position, make sure that the edge guide on U presser foot (3) follows the folded edge (2) through turning the roller (4).
Adjust the stitch width (model 160) and the edge guide on the presser foot in order to get the best possible result.
Zipper insertion ‘ 1. Select straight stitch and attach the zipper foot. .‘ ‘ \ 2. Position the zipper foot to the left of the needle. 3 3. Place the zipper under the folded seam allo wance with the zipper teeth as close to the fold as possible and stitch zipper to fabric close to the fold. Begin sewing at the bottom of the zipper. 4, Position the zipper foot to the right of the needle. Before you begin to sew, mark the seam line. Sew the other side of the zipper.
Sewing on buttons 1. Lower the feed dog 2. Remove the presser foot. 3. Position the button on the fabric and lower the presser bar. 4. Turn the handwheel towards you and make sure that the needle enters both holes of the button. You may need to readjust the stitch width. 5. Sew 6 to 8 stitches. 6. Pull both threads to the underside and tie. Bridging stitches L1 Use those to join two pieces of fabric edge to edqe.

Optional accessories Rolled hem / A 2 1. Raise the presser foot and the needle to the highest position. Change to the hemmer foot. 2. Fold the edge of the fabric abt. 3 mm and place the fabric under the presser foot. Secure the folded edge with a few stitches. Take out the garment and pull the hem into the hemmer foot through pulling the threads. a Lower the presser foot and sew the lem. 4. When sewing, guide the fabric a little to the left so that it really runs into the hemmer foot. 5.
Optional accessories Free—hand embroidery Remove the prewr foot arid the foot holder. Lower the teed dog, Position the fabric in an embroi’ dery hoop, stretching it as much as possible. Place the hoop under the needle and lower the presser bar. Twin needle L Thread the machine as for norn sewing but with two threads. The stitch width mu NOTE’ NOT exceed 3 mm as otherwise needle breakage will be the result.
Optional accessories Quilting guide S.. 55- 1. This attachment comes in handy when you want several rows of stitches on equal distance apart. 2. Attach the quilting guide to presser foot as shown. Edge guide 1. Use the edge guide when sewing a long seam at the same distance from the fabric edge. 2. Attach the edge guide to the right of the stitch plate and adjust the distance. a Run the machine with the fabric edge s’ightly touching the guide. Position the guide at an angle to sew a curved seam.
