area.Ventilatewhenchargingoroperatingvehicleinanenclosedarea.Wearafullfaceshieldand
rubbergloveswhenworkingonornearbatteries.
•Battery–Poison!Containsacid!Causessevereburns.Avoidcontactwithskin,eyes,orclothing.
Antidotes:
–External:Flushwithwater.Callaphysicianimmediately.
–Internal:Drinklargequantitiesofmilkorwaterfollowedwithmilkofmagnesiaorvegetable
oil.Callaphysicianimmediately.
–Eyes:Flushwithwaterfor15minutes.Callaphysicianimmediately.
•Tools,wires,andmetalobjectscancausesparkswhenshortedacrossabattery.
WARNING
•Wearsafetyglassesorapprovedeyeprotectionwhenservicingthevehicle.
•Followallinstructionscarefullywhenworkingwithbatteries.
•Whenjumpingfromaboosterbatterymakenal(negative)connectionatengineframe.
•Donotjumpstartorchargeafrozenordamagedbattery.Unplugchargerbeforeconnectingor
disconnectingcablestothebattery.Neverleanoverbatterywhileboosting,testing,orcharging.
Thebatteryinthisvehicleisa12-volt,low-maintenancebatterythatrequiresinfrequentchecks(Figure29).Electrolyte
levelshouldbecheckedsemiannually.
