1.Addengineoil;useafunnelorpourspouttodirecttheoilintotheopening(Figure20).Withlterchange,the
enginerequires1-1/2qt.(1.4L)ofoilperchange.
2.Refertooilviscosityguidelinesforselectionofoilgrade(Figure21).SeefollowingCAUTION.
CAUTION
Donotexceedrecommendedoilcapacity.Doingsowilldecreaseengineperformanceorresultin
damagetotheengine.
1.Connectthebatterycables,positive(+)cablerst,andtightenterminalsto80in-lb(9N·m).Coatterminalswith
BatteryTerminalProtectorSpray(P/N6030000-03).
2.WiththeForward/ReversehandleintheNEUTRALposition,startandruntheengineforafewminutes.Observe
boththedrainplugandtheoillterfromunderthevehicleandwatchforoilleaks.Ifaleakisdetected,check
thetightnessoftheoillteranddrainplug.Tighten,repair,and/orreplacecomponentsasnecessary.See
followingNOTE.
NOTE:Waitveminutesafterturningofftheenginebeforeremovingthedipstick.
3.Removethedipstickandchecktheengineoilasanalstep.Replacethedipstick.

Choosetheviscosityaccordingtothetemperatureasshownintheappropriateoilviscositychart(Figure21).See

NOTE:UseahighqualitydetergentengineoilwithAPIclassicationSF ,SG,SH,SJorhigherforgasolineengines.
SeeBriggsandStrattonVanguardModel2900000ServiceManualforfurtherinformationregarding
oilrecommendation.
Usingmulti-gradeoils(5W-30,10W-30,and10W-40)mayincreaseoilconsumption.Ifmulti-gradeoilisused,check
theoillevelmorefrequently.
