7.Pressandholdthebrakepedal.
8.Tostartthevehicle
8.1.Gasolinevehicles:TurnthekeytotheSTARTpositionandholditthereuntiltheenginestarts.Activate
thechokeasnecessary.Iftheenginedoesnotstartafter10-15seconds,releasethekeyandrepeatthe
procedure.Oncetheenginestarts,releasethekeyanditwillreturntotheONposition.Theengine
willidleinneutral.
8.2.Dieselvehicles:T opreheatglowplugsincoldweather,turnthekeytothePREHEATpositionandholdit
therefor10-15seconds.TurnthekeytotheSTARTpositionandholditthereuntiltheenginestarts.Ifthe
enginedoesnotstartafter10-15seconds,turnthekeytotheOFFpositionandrepeattheprocedure.Once
theenginestarts,releasethekeyanditwillreturntotheONposition.Theenginewillidleinneutral.
9.Releasetheparkbrake.
10.Keepthebrakepedalengaged,andselectdirectionoftravelbyplacingtheshifthandleinthedesiredposition
(Figure6orFigure7).Theenginemustbeatidlebeforetheshifthandleismoved.Ifequippedwithareverse
buzzer,thereversebuzzerwillsoundasawarningwhentheForward/ReversehandleisintheREVERSEposition.
11.Releasethebrakepedalcompletely,andthenslowlypresstheacceleratorpedal.Astheacceleratorpedalis
pressed,thevehiclewillbegintomove.Vehiclespeedwillincreaseastheacceleratorispresseduntilfullspeedis
reached.All-wheeldrivewillautomaticallydrivetheappropriatewheel(s)asrequired.SeefollowingWARNING.
WARNING
Operatormustcontrolvehiclespeedwhengoingdownhill.
NevershiftthevehicleoutoftheFORWARDpositionwhilegoingdownhill.Ifyoudo,youwillnotbe
abletoshiftintotheREVERSEpositionorbackintotheFORWARDpositionuntilstopped.
Pressthebrakepedalasnecessaryandpresstheacceleratorpedalpartiallywhendescendingahill.
Withtheacceleratorpedalpartiallypressed,thegovernorwillcausetheenginetoassistthebrakesin
controllingdownhillspeed.
ALL-WHEELDRIVE(AWD)OPERATION
AllHUV4421gasanddieselvehiclesfeatureanall-wheeldrive(AWD)system.TheAWDsystemautomaticallydirects
powertothewheel,orwheels,thathavethemosttraction,providingoptimumtractionatalltimes.Forexample,ifall
wheelsexcepttherearpassenger-sidewheellosetraction,thenpowerwillbedirectedtotherearpassenger-side
wheel.Theall-wheeldrivevehiclecanadapttractionforawidevarietyofdrivingsurfacesandconditions.See
followingWARNING.
WARNING
Whenservicingthevehiclewithpartofthevehicleonjackstands,donotoperatetheenginewiththe
Forward/ReversehandleineithertheFORWARDorREVERSEposition.Theall-wheeldrivesystemwill
engageanywheel(s),frontorrear,withtraction(Figure3).
Thediameterofalltiresonthevehiclemustbeequal,otherwisetheall-wheeldrivesystemwillnot
operateasintendedandcouldresultinseverepersonalinjuryordeath.Neverinstalltiresofdifferent
diametersonthevehicle.
UndermostcircumstancesthedriverwillnotneedtodoanythingtoengagetheAWDsystem;however,thefront
differentialmaybecomelocked(rotateatthesamespeedregardlessoftheterrain)undercertainconditions.Ifthe
frontdifferentialbecomeslocked,driveslowlyinreverseforatleast10feet(3meters),thenbrakegently.See
