OPERATION The operation of any tractor can result in foreign objects thrown into the eyes, which can result in severe eye damage. Always wear safety glasses or eye shields while operating your tractor or performing any adjustments or repairs. We recommend standard safety glasses or a wide vision safety mask worn over spectacles. HOW TO USE YOUR TRACTOR ENGINE • Move throttle control (D) to slow position.
OPERATION TO MOVE FORWARD AND BACKWARD (See Fig. 7) • Put attachment lift lever in desired cutting height slot. The cutting height range is approximately 1 to 4" (25,4 to 101,6 mm). The heights are measured from the ground to the blade tip with the engine not running. These heights are approximate and may vary depending upon soil conditions, height of grass and types of grass being mowed. The direction and speed of movement is controlled by the forward and reverse drive pedals.
OPERATION TO STOP MOWER BLADES TO OPERATE ON HILLS Disengage attachment clutch control. CAUTION: Do not drive up or down hills with slopes greater than 15° and do not drive across any slope. CAUTION: Do not operate the mower without either the entire grass catcher, on mowers so equipped, or the deflector chute in place (See Fig. 10). • • • • • • Choose the slowest speed before starting up or down hills. Avoid stopping or changing speed on hills.
OPERATION BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE SERVICE REMINDER/HOUR METER Service reminder shows the total number of hours the engine has run and indicates when the engine or mower needs servicing. After every 50 hours of operation the oil can icon will stay on for 2 hours or until a manual reset occurs. To reset the display manually turn the ignition switch to the on position, then the off position five times (1 second on, 1 second off). To service engine and mower, see the Maintenance section of this manual.
OPERATION RESERVE FUEL VALVE OPERATION (See Fig. 14) TO START ENGINE (See Fig. 3) When starting the engine for the first time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take extra cranking time to move fuel from the tank to the engine. • Ensure freewheel control is in the transmission engaged position. • Sit on seat in operating position, depress brake pedal and set parking brake. • Move attachment clutch to “DISENGAGED” position.
OPERATION MOWING TIPS PURGE TRANSMISSION • CAUTION: Never engage or disengage freewheel lever while the engine is running. • To ensure proper operation and performance, it is recommended that the transmission be purged before operating tractor for the first time. This procedure will remove any trapped air inside the transmission which may have developed during shipping of your tractor.

MAINTENANCE TRACTOR CAUTION: Use only a replacement blade approved by the manufacturer of your tractor. Using a blade not approved by the manufacturer of your tractor is hazardous, could damage your tractor and void your warranty. Always observe safety rules when per form ing any maintenance. BRAKE OPERATION If tractor requires more than five (5) feet (1,5 m) to stop at highest speed in highest gear on a level, dry concrete or paved surface, then brake must be checked and adjusted.
MAINTENANCE TRANSAXLE MAINTENANCE LOWER DASH COVER REMOVAL • Raise hood. • Remove fastener from lower dash cover. CAUTION: Remove lower dash cover carefully to ensure cover tabs are not broken. • Slide lower dash cover up to release cover tabs from tapered slots in lower dash and remove. The transmission fan and cooling fins should be kept clean to ensure proper cooling. Do not attempt to clean fan or transmission while engine is running or while the transmission is hot.
MAINTENANCE CLEANING (See Fig. 22) AIR FILTER • Your engine will not run properly using a dirty air filter. Service air cleaner more often under dusty conditions. • CLEAN AIR SCREEN The air screen is over the air intake blower located on top of engine. The air screen must be kept free of dirt and chaff to prevent engine damage from overheating. Clean with a wire brush or compressed air to remove dirt and stubborn dried gum fibers. Clean engine, battery, seat, finish, etc. of all foreign matter.
MAINTENANCE DECK WASHOUT PORT (See Fig. 23) Your tractor’s deck is equipped with a washout port as part of its deck wash system. It should be utilized after each use. 1. Drive the tractor to a level, clear spot on your lawn, near enough to a water spigot for your garden hose to reach. IMPORTANT: Make certain the tractor’s discharge chute is directed AWAY from your house, garage, parked cars, etc. Remove bagger chute or mulch cover if attached. 2.

If tires are over or under inflated, it may affect the appearance of your lawn and lead you to think the mower is not adjusted properly.

Engage parking brake. • Lower attachment lift lever to its lowest position. • Remove mandrel covers. • Remove any dirt or grass clippings which may have accumulated around mandrels and entire upper deck surface. • With a 3/8" breaker bar and using the square opening in the idler arm, shift the arm counterclockwise ( ) to relieve the tension on the belt.
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS TO REPLACE MOTION DRIVE BELT (See Fig. 39) FRONT WHEEL TOE-IN/CAMBER Your new tractor front wheel toe-in and camber is set at the factory and is normal. The front wheel toe-in and camber are not adjustable. If damage has occurred to affect the factory set front wheel toe-in or camber, contact a qualified service center. Park the tractor on level surface. Engage parking brake. For assistance, there is a belt installation guide decal on bottom side of left footrest. BELT REMOVAL 1.
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS TO START ENGINE WITH A WEAK BATTERY (See Fig. 41) REPLACING BATTERY (See Fig. 42) WARNING: Do not short battery terminals by allowing a wrench or any other object to contact both terminals at the same time. Before connecting battery, remove metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc. Positive terminal must be connected first to prevent sparking from accidental grounding. WARNING: Lead-acid batteries generate explosive gases.
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS TO REPLACE HEADLIGHT BULB • • • • ENGINE Raise hood. Pull bulb holder out of the hole in the backside of the grill. Replace bulb in holder and push bulb holder securely back into the hole in the backside of the grill. Close hood. TO ADJUST THROTTLE CONTROL CABLE The throttle control has been preset at the factory and adjustment should not be necessary. If adjustment is necessary, see engine manual.
STORAGE ENGINE Immediately prepare your tractor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used for 30 days or more. FUEL SYSTEM IMPORTANT: IT IS IMPORTANT TO PREVENT GUM DEPOSITS FROM FORMING IN ESSENTIAL FUEL SYSTEM PARTS SUCH AS CARBURETOR, FUEL FILTER, FUEL HOSE, OR TANK DURING STORAGE. ALSO, EXPERIENCE INDICATES THAT ALCOHOL BLENDED FUELS (CALLED GASOHOL OR USING ETHANOL OR METHANOL) CAN ATTRACT MOISTURE WHICH LEADS TO SEPARATION AND FORMATION OF ACIDS DURING STORAGE.

OPERACIÓN PARA AJUSTAR LAS RUEDAS CALIBRADORAS (Vea Fig. 9) Las ruedas calibradoras están bien ajustadas cuando se encuentran un poco a distancia del terreno al mismo tiempo que la segadora esté a la altura de corte deseada. OPERACIÓN TESTIGO DE BATERÍA/CONECTOR DE CARGA (Vea Fig. 13) AGREGUE GASOLINA • El testigo de la batería muestra el estado de la misma. Hay tres testigos distintos: 1. ROJO Se necesita carga 2. AMARILLO Se recomienda carga 3. VERDE No se necesita carga Llene el tanque de combustible hasta la parte inferior del cuello de relleno. No lo llene de más. Use gasolina normal nueva y limpia con un mínimo de 87 octanos. No mezcle aceite con gasolina.

MANTENIMENTO TRACTOR PRECAUCIÓN: Usar solamente la hojas de repuesto aprobada por el fabricante de su cortacésped. Usar una hoja no aprobada por el fabricante de su cortacésped es peligroso, puede dañar su cortacésped y anular su garantía. Siempre observe las reglas de seguridad cuando dé mantenimiento.
MANTENIMENTO PARA CAMBIAR EL ACEITE DEL MOTOR (Vea Fig. 18-20) CORREAS "V" Revise las correas "V" para verificar si existe deterioro y desgaste después de 100 horas de operación y cámbielas si es necesario. Las correas no son ajustables. Cambie las correas si empiezan a deslizarse debido al desgaste. Determine la gama de la temperatura esperada antes de cambiar el aceite. Todo el aceite debe cumplir con la clasificación de servicio API SG-SL. • Asegúrese que el tractor esté en una superficie nivelada.
MANTENIMENTO • • Vuelva a llenar el motor con aceite a través del tubo de la varilla indicadora de nivel para relleno del aceite. Vacíelo lentamente. No lo llene demasiado. Para la capacidad aproximada vea las “Especificaciones del Producto” sección de este manual. Use un medidor en la tapa/varilla indicadora del nivel para relleno del aceite para revisar el nivel. Se debe utilizar después de cada uso. 1. Lleve el tractor a un lugar horizontal y despejado de su césped, lo bastante cerca de una boca de riego como para que llegue la manguera del jardín. IMPORTANTE: Asegúrese de que la boca de descarga del tractor está orientada LEJOS de su casa, garaje, coches aparcados, etc.

Antes de instalar la batería remueva las pulseras de metal, los relojes de pulsera de metal, los anillos, etc.

Tire el sujetador de la bombilla fuera del agujero en la parte trasera del enrejado. Cambie la bombilla en el sujetador y empuje el sujetador de la bombilla, en forma segura, hacia atrás en el agujero en la parte trasera del enrejado. Cierre el capota. El control de la aceleración ha sido preajustado en la fábrica y no debería necesitar ajustes.
ALMACENAMIENTO MOTOR Inmediatamente prepare su tractor para el almacenamiento al final de la temporada o si el tractor no se va a usar por 30 días o más.
