front of the right side transmission so that it can drain
into a suitable oil drain container.
5. With the hose in position, use a 10 mm wrench or socket
and open the valve approximately 4 turns in the
counterclockwise direction. Allow 10 minutes for engine
oil to adequately drain.
6. After oil is drained, close the valve by turning it in the
clockwise direction until it is fully closed.
7. Once the valve is closed, carefully remove the oil drain
hose and clean up any spilled oil.
IMPORTANT: All oil drips or spills must be cleaned off
of the exhaust system before operating the machine.
8. Clean the oil drain hose and store it appropriately. Figure

Engine Air Filter
Perform engine air filter maintenance per the Maintenance
Schedule shown elsewhere in this manual.
General Engine Maintenance
Detailed instructions and recommendations for break-in and
regular maintenance are specified in the Engine Owners
Manual. Please refer to this manual for engine servicing,
lubricating oil levels with quality and viscosity
recommendations, bolt torques, etc. The engine warranty is
backed by the manufacturer. Special attention should be paid to
applicable data which will not be duplicated here.
Carbon Canister

mowers have a carbon cannister
incorporated into the fuel system.
This is a mandatory feature on all mowers using gasoline
engines that are put into operation in California.
This canister should be replaced every 5 years or if it becomes
damaged.
Fuel Evaporation System Filter
All Hustler
®
Raptor
®
mowers have a fuel evaporation system
filter. This filter must be checked and replaced every 100 hours
or annually whichever comes first. Figure 4-5 & Figure 4-6
Belts
Inspect belts frequently for wear and serviceability. Replace a
belt that shows signs of severe cuts, tears, separation, weather
checking and cracking, or burns caused by slipping. Slight
raveling of belt covering does not indicate failure, trim ravelings
