HYDRO SYSTEMS SHOWER BASE
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Prior to installation, check to ensure that:
The installation will be in conformance with all applicable Federal, State and local building codes and regulations.
The unit is the right model, size and color.
There has been no shipping damage.
The “notice or “warning tags on the unit have been read and thoroughly understood.
The interior surface of the shower base will be protected during installation.
NOTE: All claims for damage must be made to the shipping carrier. Save all packaging for carrier inspection.
1. Plan the installation relative to the finished wall surfaces. Take into consideration the dimensions of the shower base and the shower door to be
installed. Be sure the opening in the sub-floor slab is a minimum of 5” (127mm) square/round, and that the stub of the waste pipe is central
with the opening and the projects at least 1” (25mm) above the floor.
2. The hole in the HYDRO SYSTEM S Shower Base is 3¼“ (83mm) in diameter to accommodate the 2” (50mm) drain fitting. Where a 1 ½”
(38mm) waste pipe has been roughed-in, shorten the pipe and attach a 1 ½“x 2” coupling and a 2” (50mm) nipple to project at least 1” above
the sub-floor or slab.
3. Remove the stainless steel strainer from the drain assembly (See Fig 1). Disassemble and remove the locknut, rubber washer and fiber washer
from the drain assembly. Apply a ¼“ bead of A.S.T.M . recommended silicone sealer to the upper surface drain hole of the shower base and
insert the drain assembly. Replace the rubber washer, fiber washer and locknut. Hand-tighten the locknut.
4. Prepare the shower base setting bed using sufficient lightweight cement, plaster, gypsum or fix-all bed to provide an even support for the entire
bottom area (footprint) of the shower base.
5. Apply a lubricant (common household liquid soap is recommended) to the inside of the rubber gasket in the drain assembly.
6. Place the shower base in the proper position (drain fitting over the waste pipe stub) using the floor (not the deck) as the support, and carefully
set it in the bedding compound.
7. Using a level, check the shower base in both directions to ensure that it is level for proper drainage.
DO NOT STEP ON SHOWER BASE WHILE PERFORMING THIS OPERATION.
NOTE: Allow support material to set before proceeding.
8. Drill holes in the shower base flange at each stud and secure with drywall screws. Bring tile or finish surface to the shower base flange. Seal
edges as shown. (See Fig 2)
DRAIN FITTING
NOTE: Be sure the setting bed is completely dry before proceeding. Make the
drain joint between the waste pipe and the drain fitting as follows:
With a large screwdriver and the tool included with the drain, tighten the inside
compression nut to seal the drain pipe connection. Replace the strainer and tape
over the holes to prevent finishing material from entering the drain. (See Fig 3)
CLEANUP (ALSO SEE CARE AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS)
Remove all debris and clean the shower base prior to starting usage as follows:
Remove dirt and residue with a mild detergent. CAUTION: DO NOT
USE abrasives such as cleaners, scouring compounds and pads, steel wool
or scrapers which might damage or dull the finish of the shower base.
Remove paint and stains with paint thinner or turpentine. CAUTION: DO
NOT USE aromatic solvents.
Remove plaster with a round-edged, blunt wooden block.
