Information
4.2 Synchronizing information
This section provides an overview of the types of Out look
in for ma tion you can synchronize. By default, ActiveSync
does not au to mat i cal ly synchronize all types of Outlook in-
for ma tion. Use
ActiveSync op tions to turn synchronization
on and off for spe cifi c information types.
Synchronizing Inbox
When you select Inbox for synchronization in ActiveSync,
e-mail messages are synchronized as part of the general
syn chro ni za tion process. During synchronization, the fol-
low ing events occur :
Messages are copied from the Out look Inbox fold er on
your desktop computer, or from a
Microsoft Ex change
Server, to the Inbox folder on your Pocket PC Phone.
By default, when synchronizing Inbox in for ma tion with
your desk top computer, you will receive only messages
from the last three days and the fi rst 500 bytes of each
new mes sage. You can also choose to download fi le at-
tach ments.
The messages on your phone and on your desk top com-
put er are linked. When you delete a message on your
phone, it is deleted from your desktop computer the next
time you syn chro nize, and vice versa.
Messages in subfolders in other e-mail folders in Out look
are synchronized only if the folders have been se lect ed
for syn chro ni za tion in the Inbox on your Pocket PC
Phone.
SMS messages are not received in your Inbox
through synchronization. Instead, they are sent
to your phone by way of your service provider.
