1.Makesurethatthedriveisinstalledintothecorrect
drivebay.
2.Restarttheserver.
3.Removethedrivefromthebay,wait45seconds,
andreinsertthedriveintothebay,makingsurethat
thedriveconnectstothehot-swapharddiskdrive
backplane.
4.Runanydiagnosticprogramstotesttheharddisk
drive.
5.Makesurethatthehot-swapharddiskdrive
backplaneiscorrectlyseated.Whenitiscorrectly
seated,thedriveassembliescorrectlyconnecttothe
backplanewithoutbowingorcausingmovementof
thebackplane.
6.Makesurethatthecableconnectioniscorrect.See

5.Replacetheaffectedsignalcable.
6.Forhot-swapharddiskdrives,ifyoususpecta
problemwiththebackplane,replacetheaffected
backplane.
Notalldrivesarerecognizedbytheharddiskdrive
diagnostictest.
Removethedrive(s)thatarenotrecognizedbythe
diagnostictest.Then,runtheharddiskdrivediagnostic
testagain.Iftheremainingdrivesarerecognized,replace
thedrive(s)thatyouremoved.
Theserverstopsrespondingduringtheharddiskdrive
diagnostictest.
Removetheharddiskdrivethatwasbeingtestedwhen
theserverstoppedrespondingandrunthediagnostic
testagain.Iftheharddiskdrivediagnostictestruns
successfully,replacethedrivethatyouremovedwitha
newone.
Aharddiskdrivewasnotdetectedwhiletheoperating
systemwasbeingstarted.
Reinstallallharddiskdrivesandreconnectcables.Then,
runtheharddiskdrivediagnostictest.
