Runningaconsistencycheck
ThistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtorunaconsistencycheckforvirtualdrivesusingtheLSISoftware
RAIDCongurationUtilityprogram.
AconsistencycheckisanoperationthatveriesthatallstripesonavirtualdrivewitharedundantRAID
levelareconsistent.Theconsistencycheckoperationveriescorrectnessofthedataonvirtualdrivesthat
useRAID1,5,and10(RAID0doesnotprovidedataredundancy).Forexample,inasystemwithparity,
checkingconsistencymeanscomputingthedataononedriveandcomparingtheresultstothecontentsof
theparitydrive.
Youshouldrunaconsistencycheckonfault-tolerantvirtualdrivesperiodically.Itisrecommendedthatyou
runaconsistencycheckatleastonceamonth.Youmustrunaconsistencycheckifyoususpectthatthe
virtualdrivedatamightbecorrupted.Besuretobackupthedatabeforerunningaconsistencycheckifyou
suspectthedatamightbecorrupted.
TorunaconsistencycheckusingtheLSISoftwareRAIDCongurationUtilityprogram,dothefollowing:
1.StarttheLSISoftwareRAIDCongurationUtilityprogram.See“StartingtheLSISoftwareRAID

2.Onthemaininterfaceoftheprogram,selectCheckConsistencyandfollowtheinstructionsonthe
screen.
Theconsistencycheckrateistherateatwhichconsistencycheckoperationsarerunonasystem.The
consistencycheckratecanbeconguredbetween0percentand100percent.At0percent,theconsistency
checkisdoneonlyifthesystemisnotdoinganythingelse.At100percent,theconsistencycheckhasa
higherprioritythananyothersystemactivity.
