Note: See Chapter 7, “Parts listing, Types 8861, 8862,” on page 139 to determine which components are
replaceable by the customer and which components must be replaced by an IBM field service technician.
Power problems
Symptom FRU/action
The server does not turn on. Note: The xSeries 365 server requires two 950W hot swap power supplies for full
redundancy at both 220V and 110V.
1. Verify that:
v The power cables are properly connected to the computer.
v The electrical outlet functions properly.
v The type of memory installed is correct.
v The memory cassette is fully seated.
v If you just installed an option, remove it, and restart the server. If the server
now turns on, you might have installed more options than the power supply
supports.
v The LEDs on the power supply are do not reflect a problem.
v Verify that microprocessors are installed in the correct sequence.
2. Override front panel power button:
a. Disconnect server power cords.
b. Reconnect power cords.
c. Reseat the operator information panel cables, then repeat steps 2a and 2b.
If server turns on:
v Operator information panel
If server does not turn on, see “Power LED errors” on page 130.

The server does not turn off.
1. Verify whether you are using an ACPI or non-ACPI operating system. If
you are using a non-ACPI operating system:
a. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
b. Turn off the system by holding the power-control button for 5 seconds.
c. If computer fails during BIOS POST and power-control button does not
work, remove the ac power cord.
2. If the problem remains or if you are using an ACPI-aware operating system,
suspect the I/O board.
The server unexpectedly shuts
down and the LEDs on the front
panel are not lit.

Serial port problems
Symptom FRU/action
The number of serial ports
identified by the operating
system is less than the number
of serial ports installed.
1. Verify that:
v Each port is assigned a unique address in the Configuration/Setup Utility
program and none of the serial ports is disabled.
v The serial-port adapter, if you installed one, is seated properly.
