Understand and follow operating instructions carefully. If this tester is not used
in a manner specified by IDEAL, protection provided by the product may be
impaired.
WARNINGS
To avoid possible electric shock, personal injury or death follow these
instructions:
• Donotuseifmeterappearsdamaged.
• Visuallyinspectthemetertoensurecaseisnotcrackedandbackcaseis
securely in place.
• Inspectandreplaceleadsifinsulationisdamaged,metalisexposed,or
probes are cracked. Pay particular attention to the insulation surrounding
the connector.
• Donotusemeterifitoperatesabnormallyasprotectionmaybeimpaired.
• Donotuseduringelectricalstormsorinwetweather.
• Donotusearoundexplosivegas,dust,orvapor.
• Donotapplymorethantheratedvoltagetothemeter.
• Donotusewithoutthebatteryandthebackcaseproperlyinstalled.
• Removethetestleadsfromthemeterbeforeremovingbatterycap.
• Donotattempttorepairthisunitasithasnouser-serviceableparts.
• Disconnectpoweranddischargecapacitorsbeforetestingresistance,
continuity or insulation.
• Replacebatteryassoonaslowbatteryindicatorappearstoavoid
false readings.
• Usetheproperterminals,functionandrangeforyourmeasurements.
• Usecareasthistesteroutputsahighvoltagetomeasureinsulation
resistance.
• Complywithlocalandnationalsafetyrequirements,includingtheuseof
appropriatepersonalprotectiveequipment.
To protect yourself, think “Safety First”:
• Voltagesexceeding30VACor60VDCposeashockhazardsousecaution.
• Useappropriatepersonalprotectiveequipmentsuchassafetyglasses,face
shields, insulating gloves, insulating boots, and/or insulating mats.
• Beforeeachuse:
- Performacontinuitytestbytouchingthetestleadstogetherto
verify the functionality of the battery and test leads.
- Usethe3PointSafetyMethod.(1)Verifymeteroperationbymeasur-
ingaknownvoltage.(2)Applymetertocircuitundertest.(3)Returnto
the known live voltage again to ensure proper operation.
