Scanning area ofSE2Lconsists of protection zone and warning
zones.Maximum 32setsof areacanbe configured. Further, two
combinationsfor protection and warning zonescanbe selected for
theoperation.

Protectionzone
Protectionzoneissafety-criticalanddirectlyconnectedtotheOSSD
signal. Whenan obstacle is detected in theprotection zone,SE2L
willswitchthe OSSDfrom ON-state to OFF-state(which should
triggeraswitchtostopamachineorAGV).Formobileapplications,
theOSSDsignalcanbeusedastheemergencystopsignal.Figure
1shows the examplesofprotection zone configuredusing manual
modeand teachingmode respectively.User must configure these
zonesaccordinglytoensurehazardousareaiscompletelyprotected.

Warningzone
Warning zonesarenon-safety zones andareconnected to Warning1and
Warning2outputs.Whentheobstacleisdetectedinthewarningzones,SE2L
willswitchtherespectivewarningsignalfromON-statetoOFF-state.
Warningsignals can be usedas an alert signaltoavoid human beings or
objectsfromapproachingneartheprotectionzone.Formobileapplications,
warningsignals can beused for reducing thespeedof automatic guided
vehicle(AGV)toavoidcollision.
(2)OSSD
OSSDissafety-relatedsignal.Whenhumansorobjectsaredetected
intheprotectionzone,theOSSDsignalwillswitchtoOFFstatefrom
ON-state.OSSDsignalhastheself-diagnosticfunctionwhichtests
thesignalperiodically.SignaliscontinuouslyswitchedtoOFF-state
whenanerrorisdetectedduringthediagnostic.
Output states of OSSD1 and OSSD2 signal are identical. Both
signals should beconnected to the safety relatedmachines or
controlsystem to fulfill therequiredsafety level. If OSSD3and
OSSD4areusedtheymustbeconnectedinthesamemanner.
(3)Interlockfunction
Interlockisa function to prevent automaticrestartofthe OSSD
signalswitchingfrom OFF-state to ON-state. OSSD1/2,RESREQ1
andRESET1 are for protectionzone1; OSSD3/4,RESREQ2 and
RESET2areforprotectionzone2whensettingthesensorbySLS
ProjectDesigner.WeuseOSSD,RESREQandRESETintherest
ofthisdocumentasrepresentativeterms.

Automaticrestart
SE2Lwillrestartautomaticallywheninterlockfunctionisdisabledor
therestartinterlockfunctionisset"auto"wheninterlockisenabled.
Whenobstaclefromtheprotectionzoneis removed,OSSDsignals
switchfromOFF-statetoON-stateautomatically.
However, ifSE2Lis in the lockoutstatedue toerror, OSSDs will
remaininOFF-stateeveniftheinterlockfunctionisdisabled.

Manualrestart
When interlock functionis setto manual restart mode, evenif the
detectedobstacles orsystem error is removed,OSSD signals will
remain in OFF-state. Anexternal reset inputsignal isrequired to
releasethe interlock whichallowstheSE2Ltoswitchto normal
operation.RESREQ signal will beswitched to ON statewhen
obstaclesdisappearfrom protectionzone.SE2Lwillresumenormal
operation only after confirmingthe reset signal (RESET). The
durationoftheresetsignalshouldbemorethan500ms.AfterRES
REQsignal becomes ONandreset signal is confirmed,the OSSD
signalwillswitchtoON-stateafterthelapseoftheconfigureddelay
time.IfOSSD'sOFF-stateisduetoaninternalfault,itwillremain
in OFF-stateevenwhenreset signalis provided.Resetdelay is
configurableintherangeof1sto6s.

Manualstart
Start interlock isa function which keeps theOSSD in OFF-state
duringthe start-up until an externalreset input is applied. Start
interlock setting has onlymanual mode. The
RESREQ signal
switches toON-state after theSE2Lcompletes initialroutines and
ready toaccept the RESETinput. When RESETinputis applied,
OSSDwillswitchtoONstateifnoobjectisdetectedintheprotection
zone.The duration of thereset input should bemorethan 500ms.
Delaycanbeconfiguredintherangeof1sto6s.
(4)Externaldevicemonitoring(EDM)function
EDMis afunctionthat monitors the stateof the input signalfrom
thecontrolled machine orautomated guided vehicle (AGV).EDM
isconfigured using theSLSproject designer.When EDM function
is enabled, anyfault detected in EDMsignal will switch theOSSD
signaltoOFF-state.LogicofEDMsignalshouldbealwaysinverseof
theOSSDsignal.EDMinputsignalON/OFFdelayisconfigurableto
matchtheuserʼssystem.PleasedonotconnectEDMinputwhen
thisfunctionisnotneeded.
(5)Mutingfunction
Muting function temporarily suspends the safetyfunctioninthe
configuredzoneofSE2Lwhenthespecifiedconditionsarefulfilled.In
themutingstateOSSDremainsintheON-stateevenwhenanobject
is detected in the configured mutingzone. Two independent hard
wiredinputsignalsareprovidedtostartandendthemutingfunction.
Mutingzone isconfiguredusing theSLSproject designer. When
mutinginputsfulfillthemutingstartconditions,SE2Lwillsuspendthe
safetyfunctionforthemutingzonewithin60ms.

Mutingstartcondition
Mutingfunctionwillstartwhenthefollowingconditionsarefulfilled:
a)TherearenoobjectsintheprotectionzoneandtheOSSDisin
ON-state.
b)Thetwoindependenthardwiredmutinginputsignalsareswitched
to ON state in the predefinedsequencewithin the pre-set time
interval.However,theswitchingintervalbetweentwoinputsignals
shouldnotbe0.

Mutingstopcondition
Muting functionwillstop whenany one of the condition belowis
fulfilled:
a)OneofthemutinginputsswitchestoOFF-state.
b)Whenthemutingstateexceedsthepredefinedmaximummuting
time.
c)Objectsaredetectedintheprotectionzonewhichisnotcovered
bythemutingzone.
d)Errorisdetectedbytheself-diagnosticsfunction.
e)Duringmutingstatewhentheareaisswitchedtoanotherarea.

Mutingoverridefunction
Mutingoverride isa function to recoverSE2Lwhen theOSSD is
switchedto OFFstate due to mutingrelated errors by temporarily
suspendingthesafetyfunction.Overridefunctionisactivewhenthe
overrideinput(OVERRIDE1/2)andtheresetinput(RESET1/2)are
switchedinasequence.
(6)Referencemonitoringfunction
Referencemonitoringisafunctiontomonitorthedisplacementofthe
SE2Lorthestructureusedasreferenceboundary.

Accessprotection
Anexampleofreferencemonitorfunctionusedforaccessprotection
isshown in figure 1.Reference segments should be configured
on eachsurface for displacement detection. Referencesegments
shouldbeconfiguredsuchthatdisplacementcanbeeasilydetected.
TheOSSD will switch to OFF-state when access penetration is
detected,andalso if the distance betweenSE2Land the reference
structure changes. This function is compulsory for vertical
applications.

(7)Areasequencefunction
Areasequenceisafunctiontomonitorsequencesofareaswitching.
Whenthisfunctionisactivated,OSSDsignalwillswitchtoOFF-state
iftheswitching pattern isotherthantheconfiguredsequence. This
functionprevents themachine tooperatewith random protection
zone.
Fromeacharea,switching selection tomaximum31otherareas is
possiblewhenconfiguringtheareasequence.And,itisnecessaryto
specify1ormoreareastoavoiderror.

Whenareasequence is disabled,SE2Lcanswitchfromanareato
anyother areas(Figure 3) whereas it canonly switch to specified
areasifareasequenceisenabled.(Figure4).
Areasequencefunctionisrecommendedforcontrolsystemswhere
switchingareasequencescanbeconfigured.

(8)Responsetime
ResponsetimesofOSSDsignal,OFFresponsetime(Default60ms)
andONresponsetime(Default270ms)areconfigurableindividually
foreach area using theSE2Lprojectdesigner. Response time of
theWarning1andWarning2will besameastheOSSD response
time.Table 1 shows the possibleconfigurable values.Inthe dual
protectionmode, it ispossible to setaseparate response time for
eachprotectionarea.
Whenlonger response time isconfigured,the stability ofSE2Lcan
beincreased.However,longerresponsetimerequireslongersafety
distance.Usermustperformriskassessmentbeforeconfiguringthe
responsetime.Additionofmaximum1cycle(30ms)hastobetaken
intoaccountfortheareaswitching.

(9)Areaswitching
Amaximumof32setsofareacanbeconfiguredinSE2L.However
themaximum configurable area number differs dependingon the
selectedfunctionsuchas,mutinganddualprotection.Table2shows
themaximumconfigurableareanumberaccordingtotheusedmode.
External input signalsare provided inSE2Lforswitching the area.
Eachsignalhasapairofnormalandinverted signal.Forexample,
it isnecessary toprovide both inputsignal INAandinverseIN
Asignaltoswitchthearea.ErrorwilloccurifINAandinverseIN
Asignals donotcomplement eachother. Table3-2below shows
the combination of inputsignal to switch thearea. Area inusewill
be displayed inthe7 segment LED ofSE2L. Itis also possible to
configurearea input delay. Configurethenecessary delay required
forthe system toprovidestable input signalstoSE2L. The default
valueis30ms.
Therearemaximum5inputpairs(apairisacombinationofnormal
andinvertedsignal)inSE2Ltherefore,itcanoperatewithmaximum
32setsofarea.Further,itisalsopossibletoswitchtheareathrough
thespeed monitoring of increment encodersignal connectedto
SE2L.
