3 Introduction
3.1 About this Guide
This guide provides detailed instructions for installing, connecting, conguring, operating, upgrading, and
troubleshooting the Impinj R700 reader. To shorten the length of this guide, the content focuses on the
installation and operation of a single reader.
3.2 Intended Audience
The intended audience for this guide is anyone installing an Impinj R700 reader, such as systems engineers
and IT personnel with experience and basic knowledge of:
• Software development
• Hardware systems integration
• Network connectivity
This guide also assumes that the user has a high-level understanding of RFID, RFID systems management,
and a basic familiarity with the EPCglobal Gen 2 specication.

This guide is part of a larger documentation set that supports Impinj RAIN RFID readers. The document

• Impinj R700 Quick Start Guide
is a guide included with the Impinj R700 reader. It provides basic
information about the hardware and instructions for obtaining additional documentation, rmware
upgrades and downloads, and other support software.
• Impinj LTK Programmer’s Guide provides software engineers with guidelines and best practices
for working with the Low Level Reader Protocol (LLRP) Toolkit. Software engineers can also access
language-specic reference guides and sample applications that illustrate the scenarios discussed in the
Programmer’s Guide.
• Impinj Octane LLRP Guide is intended for software engineers and describes the LLRP capabilities
supported by Impinj RAIN RFID readers, which includes Impinj’s custom LLRP extensions.
Note: Octane is the name for the Impinj reader rmware.
• Impinj RShell Reference Manual describes the syntax and command language for the Impinj
reader RShell console.
• Impinj Firmware Upgrade Reference Manual includes detailed procedures, reference information
for upgrading rmware installed on single readers, and procedures for creating a metale to automate
upgrading of multiple readers.

Throughout this document, references are made to both standard and extended LLRP messages, parameters,
and elds. To help visually distinguish between these dierent types, the following table provides details on
