SEAT BELTS PRECAUTIONS ON SEAT BELT USAGE If you are wearing your seat belt properly adjusted, and you are sitting upright and well back in your seat with both feet on the floor, your chances of being injured or killed in an accident and/or the severity of injury may be greatly reduced. INFINITI strongly encourages you and all of your passengers to buckle up every time you drive, even if your seating position includes a supplemental air bag. Most U.S.
O Position the lap belt as low and snug as possible AROUND THE HIPS, NOT THE WAIST. A lap belt worn too high could increase the risk of internal injuries in an accident. O Be sure the seat belt tongue is securely fastened to the proper buckle. O Do not wear the seat belt inside out or twisted. Doing so may reduce its effectiveness. O Do not allow more than one person to use the same seat belt. O Never carry more people in the vehicle than there are seat belts.
CHILD SAFETY Children need adults to help protect them. They need to be properly restrained. In addition to the general information in this manual, child safety information is available from many other sources, including doctors, teachers, government traffic safety offices, and community organizations. Every child is different, so be sure to learn the best way to transport your child.
“Supplemental restraint system” later in this section. Infants Infants up to at least one year old should be placed in a rear facing child restraint. INFINITI recommends that infants be placed in child restraints that comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards or Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. You should choose a child restraint which fits your vehicle and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for installation and use.
PRE-CRASH SEAT BELTS (front seats) (if so equipped) THREE-POINT TYPE SEAT BELT WARNING The pre-crash seat belt tightens the seat belt to help restrain front seat occupants under emergency braking. This can help reduce the risk of injury when a collision occurs. O Every person who drives or rides in this vehicle should use a seat belt at all times. O The shoulder belt anchor height should be adjusted to the position best for you.
CHILD RESTRAINTS may be used for either the driver or front passenger seating position. See an INFINITI dealer for assistance if the extender is required. WARNING O O O Only INFINITI belt extenders, made by the same company which made the original equipment seat belts, should be used with the INFINITI seat belts. Adults and children who can use the standard seat belt should not use an extender. Such unnecessary use could result in serious personal injury in the event of an accident.
O O Improper use or improper installation of a child restraint can increase the risk or severity of injury for both the child and other occupants of the vehicle and can lead to serious injury or death in an accident. O Follow all of the child restraint manufacturer’s instructions for installation and use. When purchasing a child restraint, be sure to select one which will fit your child and vehicle. It may not be possible to properly install some types of child restraints in your vehicle.
CAUTION Remember that a child restraint left in a closed vehicle can become very hot. Check the seating surface and buckles before placing your child in the child restraint. BREAK-IN SCHEDULE INCREASING FUEL ECONOMY O Accelerate slowly and smoothly. Maintain cruising speeds with a constant accelerator position. During the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km), follow these recommendations to obtain maximum engine performance and ensure the future reliability and economy of your new vehicle. O Drive at moderate speeds on the highway. O Avoid unnecessary stopping and braking. Keep a safe distance behind other vehicles.
ALL-WHEEL DRIVE (AWD) (if so equipped) If any malfunction occurs in the AWD system while the engine is running, the warning light will come on. The warning light may blink rapidly (about twice per second) while trying to free a stuck vehicle due to high power train oil temperature. The driving mode may change to two-wheel drive. If the warning light blinks rapidly during operation, stop the vehicle with the engine idling in a safe place immediately.
PARKING/PARKING ON HILLS CAUTION O If the warning light comes on while driving there may be a malfunction in the AWD system. Reduce the vehicle speed and have your vehicle checked by an INFINITI dealer as soon as possible. O If the warning light remains on after the above operation, have your vehicle checked by an INFINITI dealer as soon as possible. O The power train may be damaged if you continue driving with the warning light blinking rapidly.
POWER STEERING 1. Firmly apply the parking brake. 2. Move the selector lever to the P (Park) position. 3. To help prevent the vehicle from rolling into the street when parked on a sloping drive way, it is a good practice to turn the wheels as illustrated. O 1 HEADED DOWNHILL WITH CURB: q Turn the wheels into the curb and move the vehicle forward until the curb side wheel gently touches the curb.
BRAKE ASSIST the brakes return to normal. Avoid driving the vehicle at high speeds until the brakes function correctly. Parking brake bedding The parking brake shoes must be “bedded down” whenever the stopping effect of the parking brake is weakened or whenever the parking brake shoes and/or drums are replaced, in order to assure the best braking performance. This procedure is described in the Vehicle service manual and can be performed by an INFINITI dealer.
O This system will not operate when the vehicle is moving at approximately 20 MPH (32 km/h) or less. O The pre-pressure function ceases when the following conditions are met: driver’s responsibility to stay alert, drive safely and be in control of the vehicle at all times. O As there is a performance limit to the Preview Function, never rely solely on this system. This system does not correct careless inattentive or absentminded driving, or overcome poor visibility in rain, fog, or other bad weather.
conditions, have the vehicle checked at an INFINITI dealer. — Winding or hilly roads may cause the sensor to temporarily not detect a vehicle in the same lane or may detect objects or vehicles in other lanes. — Vehicle position in the lane may cause the sensor to temporarily not detect a vehicle in the same lane or may detect objects or vehicles in other lanes. O How to handle the sensor The sensor for the Preview Function is common with Intelligent Cruise Control and is located below the front bumper.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) WARNING O O The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is a sophisticated device, but it cannot prevent accidents resulting from careless or dangerous driving techniques. It can help maintain vehicle control during braking on slippery surfaces. Remember that stopping distances on slippery surfaces will be longer than on normal surfaces even with ABS. Stopping distances may also be longer on rough, gravel or snow covered roads, or if you are using tire chains.
VEHICLE DYNAMIC CONTROL (VDC) SYSTEM Normal operation The ABS operates at speeds above 3 to 6 MPH (5 to 10 km/h). The speed varies according to road conditions. When the ABS senses that one or more wheels are close to locking up, the actuator rapidly applies and releases hydraulic pressure. This action is similar to pumping the brakes quickly. You may feel a pulsation in the brake pedal and hear a noise from under the hood or feel a vibration from the actuator when it is operating.
The VDC system uses an Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS) function to improve vehicle traction. The ABLS system works when one of the driving wheels is spinning on a slippery surface. The ABLS system brakes the spinning wheel, which distributes the driving power to the other drive wheel. If the vehicle is operated with the VDC system turned off, all VDC system and TCS functions will be turned off. The ABLS system and ABS will still operate with the VDC system off.
COLD WEATHER DRIVING REAR ACTIVE STEER SYSTEM (if so equipped) The Rear Active Steer system is an electronically controlled four-wheel steering system. The angle of the rear wheels are adjusted by the Rear Active Steer system, depending on the vehicle speed and steering angle. The rear wheels are designed to turn momentarily in the opposite direction and then change to the same direction as the front wheels.
radiator. Refill before operating the vehicle. See “Engine cooling system” in the “8. Maintenance and do-it-yourself” section for changing engine coolant. TIRE EQUIPMENT 1. SUMMER tires are of a tread design to provide superior performance on dry pavement. However, the performance of these tires will be substantially reduced in snowy and icy conditions. If you operate your vehicle on snowy or icy roads, INFINITI recommends the use of MUD & SNOW or ALL SEASON tires on all four wheels.
Try not to brake while on the ice, and avoid any sudden steering maneuvers. O Do not use cruise control on slippery roads. O Snow can trap dangerous exhaust gases under your vehicle. Keep snow clear of the exhaust pipe and from around your vehicle. ENGINE BLOCK HEATER (if so equipped) Engine block heaters are available through NISSAN dealers to assist in cold temperature starting. The engine block heater should be used when the outside temperature is 20 degrees F (−7 degrees C) or lower. 4.
