And use yellow plugs to connect composite video inputs and outputs.
Connecting the DPS-5.9—Continued Connecting Your TV or Projector This section explains how to connect the DPS-5.9 to your TV or projector. See page 22 for connecting a TV or projector that supports HDMI. In this hookup example, the TV handles the audio and video. To enjoy Dolby Digital or DTS (surround), you’ll need a compatible decoder (see page 20). The DPS-5.9 has four types of video output: HDMI, component video, S-Video, and composite video.
Connecting the DPS-5.9—Continued • When the HDMI Output setting is set to On (see pages 27, 46), the DPS-5.9 cannot output progressive video. To output progressive video, you must set the HDMI Output setting to Off (see pages 27, 46), and set the Progressive setting to Progressive (see pages 27, 46).
Connecting the DPS-5.9—Continued Notes: • Make sure that the Digital/HDMI Audio Out setting on the Audio menu is set to All (see page 47). Otherwise, you won’t get surround sound. • Also refer to the connection information supplied with your AV receiver or decoder. • When playing Dolby Digital or DTS source material, be sure to select Dolby Digital or DTS decoding, respectively, on your AV receiver or decoder. See the relevant manuals.
Connecting the DPS-5.9—Continued Connecting a Component with an HDMI Input This section shows how to connect the DPS-5.9 to an AV receiver, HDTV, or projector with an HDMI input. What is HDMI? HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is a new connection format that can carry uncompressed, standard or high definition digital video and up to eight channels of digital audio. Until now, several separate video and audio cables have been required to connect AV components together.
Connecting the DPS-5.9—Continued Connecting Components -compatible AV receiver IN L REMOTE CONTROL R • The remote controller supplied with Integra/Onkyo AV receiver or amplifiers can be used to control the DPS-5.9. • The function of the upper and lower connectors are the same. Connect to either one. • Connecting an cable only does not make the system operational. You must also connect the audio cables as well. • For remote control operation, you must make an analog RCA connection between your DPS-5.
Connecting the DPS-5.9—Continued Controlling AV Components that are Out of Range You can use the following multi-room kits to control the DPS-5.9 when it’s out of range of the remote controller: • Multiroom kits such as those made by Niles and Xantech. Controlling Other Out-of-range AV Components If another AV component is out of range of its remote controller, you can use a commercially available IR emitter to retransmit the remote controller signals received at the DPS-5.9’s IR IN, as shown below.
Connecting the Power/Turning on the DPS-5.9 Before connecting • Make sure that all the connections on pages 18–23 are complete (the connection to a TV is required). • For the above reasons, do not plug the DPS-5.9 into a switched power supply found on some amplifiers and AV receivers.
