Host Adapter Installation –
Intel-based System
In preparing your array for first time use, you need to connect your Intel-based system to the RAID subsystem
through the host adapter board. This chapter, along with your system and the associated StorageWorks RAID
Array 410 Subsystem manuals, provides instructions for preparing and installing the host adapter and the sub-
system enclosure, and installing the appropriate drivers on the computer system..
CAUTION
The Host Adapters listed below are the only ones that, to date, are
qualified for use with StorageWorks RAID 410. The revision level
of the qualified boards are listed in the Check List document (EK-
SM1CU-CC) included in the StorageWorks RAID Array 410 Man-
ager for Windows NT platform kit. Only boards with the listed revi-
sion levels should be used.
2.1 Install the Host Adapter
The host adapter is a SCSI-2 fast wide (16-bit) differential host adapter. Two versions of the
adapter are available and are discussed in this chapter, depending upon whether your com-
puter is an EISA- or PCI- based system:

The respective adapter installs in either your EISA- or PCI-based computer. In doing so, the
adapter connects your computer to the StorageWorks RAID Array 410 Subsystem through
the connecting SCSI cable.
