Chapter 3. Basic operations
Put your computer to sleep mode
In the lower left corner of the desktop, click Start ➙ Power ➙ Sleep.
Note: By default, press the power button or close the computer display to put the computer to sleep mode.
To wake up the computer from sleep mode, do one of the following:
• Press the power button.
• Press any key on the keyboard.
Start the Lenovo setup utility
Shut down the computer and insert a needle or a straightened paper clip into the Novo button. Then, select
BIOS Setup from the Novo Button Menu.
Start the Boot Menu
When turning on or restarting your computer, you may need to start the Boot Menu to change the boot
device of your computer.
Shut down the computer and insert a needle or a straightened paper clip into the Novo button to enter the
Novo Button Menu. Select Boot Menu on the Novo Button Menu.
From the Boot Menu, you can change the boot device and press Enter. The change is temporary. To make
the change permanent, change the boot sequence in the Lenovo setup utility.
Change the boot sequence in the Lenovo setup utility
You need to change the boot sequence in the Lenovo setup utility if you want to permanently change the
boot device for your computer.
Step 1. Start the Lenovo setup utility.
Step 2. Select the Boot menu.The boot sequence is listed under the EFI option.
Note: If the Boot Mode is set to Legacy Support, the boot sequence of available boot device(s) is
listed under Legacy.
Step 3. Use the Up and Down keys to select a boot device. Use the F5 or F6 keys to move boot devices
down or up. The device listed on the top will be the default boot device when the computer starts.
Step 4. Select Exit ➙ Exit saving changes.
Change the boot mode
When installing an operating system for your computer, you may need to change the boot mode in the
Lenovo setup utility.
Step 1. Start the Lenovo setup utility.
Step 2. On the boot menu, change boot mode to UEFI or Legacy Support.
