5.2 Temperature Sensors
There are a variety of temperature sensors that can be implemented on Intel
®
Server Systems. They are split into three types: regular
temperature sensors, thermal margin sensors, and discrete temperature sensors. Each of them has its own types of events that can be logged.
5.2.1 Regular Temperature Sensors
Regular temperature sensors are sensors that report an actual temperature. These are linear, threshold-based sensors. In most Intel
®
Server
Systems, there are at least two sensors defined: front panel temperature and baseboard temperature. Both these sensors typically have upper
and lower thresholds set – upper to warn in case of an over-temperature situation, lower to warn against sensor failure (temperature sensors
typically read out 0 if they stop working).
