iii. Network Interface Cards (NICs) will re-enumerate. If set to a static IP address, the NIC will default to DHCP
upon re-enumeration and the static IP address will be lost.
Note: Add-in adapters may behave differently than what is described above.
Root Cause
The Device rediscovery is due to a change within the BIOS to correctly generate a CID (Compatibility ID) within ACPI to
satisfy Microsoft* WHQL certification requirements.
Corrective Action / Resolution
Customers will need to manually reassign the static IP address and reload device drivers upgrading the system BIOS
prior to BIOS 45 such as BIOS 43 to BIOS 45 or later such as BIOS 46. Prior to updating BIOS, NIC settings within the
operating system should be recorded for all onboard and add-in NICs. Upon operating system reboot after the BIOS
update, NIC settings will need to be set to their previous settings. For VMWare*, set the IP address of the host back to
original IP and then the control console can be reconnected. The VM (Guest) will then load successfully.
