Description
S5500.86B.01.00.0058.06172011 (BIOS 58) has a change in the early BIOS POST SEC (Security) phase which might
cause processors to run at a lower frequency than they are capable of. After upgrading the system from an earlier BIOS
to BIOS 58, the user might see a processor frequency downgrade in the BIOS setup page, Shell environment and
operating systems. Doing an AC cycle after the BIOS update may increase the failure rate.
Root Cause
This issue is caused by a change made in BIOS 58 to enable a feature to change the processor ratio to lower the system
power consumption.
Corrective Action / Resolution
Intel has removed the system update package from www.intel.com which includes BIOS 58 and has posted a new
system update package with BIOS 59. Customers will need to use BIOS 59 instead of 58. After updating the BIOS from
BIOS 58 to BIOS 59, customers will need to load BIOS defaults or clear CMOS.
Please contact your Intel Sales Representative if you require more specific information about this issue.
