Install Standard Control Panel or Intel® Local Control Panel (optional)

Slide the control panel fully into the

server system until it clicks into place.

Feed the control panel cables

into the chassis opening.

Connect the USB and data cables to the

replacement control panel as shown.

Connect the two cables to the USB

and control panel connectors on the

back side of the backplane as shown.

Install the mini control panel

filler panel.

Remove the filler on the right as shown.

Press the latch at the back of the mini control

panel and push the control panel forward to

release it from the chassis.

Slide the mini control panel out through the

front of the server system.

(optional)

Remove filler panel from the add-in card slot.

Insert add-in card until it seats in riser connector.

Secure the add-in card with screw as shown.

Remove the screw as shown.

CAUTION:

Observe normal ESD precautions

when installing the add-in card.

Position riser card edge connector over

the server board riser socket and align

the two hooks in the riser with the

slots at the back of the chassis.

Note that the riser assembly card edge installs in

the slot in the processor air duct.

Connect SATA cables from passive midplane

board to server board as shown.

Route cables under the retention

tab and alongside the power

supply as shown to allow

clearance for a full-

height PCI add-in

card.

CAUTION: It is critical that

you connect the SATA data

cables correctly from the

SATA midplane to your

server board or RAID

Controller card. Failure to

do so may result in data loss.

Install Optical Device

Insert the optical drive into

chassis opening and push all

the way until it stops.

Install the plastic guide

onto the back of the drive

and attach with two

screws as shown.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do not install a device at this location,

install the optical device bay filler panel shown below.

This is required to maintain proper system cooling.

The RAID BBU has an internal battery power

cable. Open the BBU case lid as shown.

If the battery power

cable is not

connected, connect

the cable now.

Close and latch

the BBU

case lid.

The RAID BBU has two hooks

on the underside. Align

these hooks with the

matching chassis

tabs, then slide

toward the power

supply to lock into place.

Connect the power cable

between the BBU and

the midplane

board as

shown.

Insert the Intel

RAID Activation Key into the midplane board

socket as shown. Make sure the key snaps into the socket.

Open RAID mini DIMM socket levers and insert connector

edge of mini DIMM into socket until

levers close and snap into place.

Install power distribution board cover by aligning with the power distribution board

and the matching thumbscrew hole.

Note that the thumbscrew attaches to a chassis

standoff underneath the PDB. If the PDB is not

installed correctly, the thumbscrew will not align

with the standoff.

System Installation

C. Install your Operating System:

Use the instructions provided with the RAID

controller and with the operating system.

D. Install Operating System Drivers:

With the operating system running, insert

the Intel

Server Deployment Toolkit CD. If using a Microsoft Windows*

operating system, the Express Installer will autorun and allow you to select the

appropriate drivers to install. On other operating systems, browse the CD folders

to locate and install the driver files.

E. Install Intel

System Management Software (optional):

Download the latest version of the Intel

System Management Software from

http://www.intel.com/go/servermanagement and use the instructions provided at

that link to install the software.

A. Update the System Software:

1. Boot from the Intel

Server Deployment Toolkit CD.

2. Use the Wizard to access the latest versions on the Internet and update the

BIOS, firmware, FRUSDRs, and Intel

RMM3.

Note: You can also use downloaded files on a USB key.

B. Conﬁgure your RAID Controller:

If using a RAID card, use the instructions

provided with the RAID controller. If using on-board RAID, you must activate RAID

in the BIOS setup. See the Intel

Server Board S5520UR Technical Product

Specification for more information.

Note: Rack handles are required to install the bezel.

For detailed instructions, see the Service Guide.

Note: To install hard drives in

drive locations 6 and 7, you

must remove the filler

panel.

Install Hard Drives/Carriers

Remove the drive

carrier by pressing in

on the green latch,

pulling out on the

black lever and sliding

the drive carrier out.

Repeat these steps for each installed hard drive

Note: Carrier lever must be held in the

FULLY OPEN position to install into

the chassis. Slide carrier into chassis

until it clicks, then close the lever.

Remove the plastic air baffle and

save for future use.

Install the hard disk drive

as shown.

Install hard disk drive assembly

into chassis

opening.

CAUTION: If you install less than eight

drives or devices, empty drive bays must

be occupied by carriers with baffles or

with a filler panel provided for drive

locations 6 and 7 to maintain proper

system cooling.

To remove a power supply

module, push the green latch

in the direction shown while

pulling it out of the system

by the handle.

Insert the power supply module into the

power supply cage and push hard until it

clicks into place.

Finishing Up

Before installing your operating system, you must finish

your system installation, make I/O connections, and

plug in AC power.
