RemoteMonitoring(RMON)isastandardmonitoringspecificationthatenablesvariousnetworkmonitorsandconsole
systemstoexchangenetwork‐monitoringdata.RMONisthemostimportantexpansionofthestandardSNMP.RMONis
asetofMIBdefinitionsusedtodefinestandardnetworkmonitorfunctionsandinterfaces,enablingthecommunication
betweenSNMPmanagementterminalsandremotemonitors.RMONprovidesahighlyefficientmethodtomonitor
actionsinsidethesubnets.
MIDofRMONconsistsof10groups.TheIntellinet16‐PortGigabitEthernetPoE+Web‐ManagedSwitchsupportsthe
mostfrequentlyusedgroups1,2,3and9:
Statistics:CollectsEthernet,FastEthernet,andGigabitEthernetstatisticsonaninterface.
History:CollectsahistorygroupofstatisticsonEthernet,FastEthernet,andGigabitEthernetinterfacesfora
specifiedpollinginterval.
Alarm:MonitorsaspecificMIBobjectforaspecifiedinterval,triggersanalarmataspecifiedvalue(rising
threshold),andresetsthealarmatanothervalue(fallingthreshold).Alarmscanbeusedwithevents;thealarm
triggersanevent,whichcangeneratealogentryoranSNMPtrap.
Event:Determinestheactiontotakewhenaneventistriggeredbyanalarm.Theactioncanbetogeneratea
logentryoranSNMPtrap.
RMONisspecifiedaspartoftheMIBinRFC1757asanextensionoftheSNMP.

