networkingstandardsthatallowforlesspowerconsumptionduringperiodsoflowdataactivity.Theintentionwasto
reducepowerconsumptionby50%ormore,whileretainingfullcompatibilitywithexistingequipment.TheInstituteof
ElectricalandElectronicsEngineers(IEEE),throughtheIEEE802.3aztaskforce,developedthestandard.EEEworksby
poweringdowncircuitswhenthereisnotraffic.  

Whenaportispowereddowntosavepower,theoutgoingtrafficisstoredinabufferuntiltheportispoweredup
again.Usingthistechnique,morepowercanbesavedifthetrafficcanbebufferedupuntilalargeburstoftrafficcan
betransmitted.Keepinmindthatbufferingtrafficwillgivesomelatencyinthetraffic. 
ShouldyouencounterproblemsrelatedtoEEE(e.g.,relatedtoautonegotiation),disableEEEsupportandtheIntellinet
switchwillnolongeruseit.

