Safety precautions for halogen lamps
General information
Installation and maintenance work may only be carried out by qualified electric companies. Handling a
line voltage of 220/230 V is dangerous to life.
Please observe the applicable DIN/VDE provisions and the damage prevention guidelines of Vds
(Verband der Sachversicherer, Cologne).
Safety precautions
• Disconnect from mains voltage before starting work.
• Illuminated lamps are hot - allow to cool down at least 5 minutes before touching.
• Keep a distance from flammable material of at least 0.5 m.
• Ensure that the lamp housing has an overhead clearance of at least 80 mm.
• Ensure that the radiator housing has a clearance from nearby lateral surfaces of at least 50 mm .
• Make sure that all lamps and connections are firmly seated.
• The connecting elements must be adequately heat-resistant.
• All installations must be accepted by a certified specialist company.
Heat dissipation
Halogen lamps convert up to 85% of the energy input into heat. In no case should lamps of this type be
covered directly. Always allow for adequate heat dissipation/rear ventilation. Moreover, well-ventilated
installation points prolong the life of the lamp.
Minimum clearances
VDE requires that a minimum clearance between the lamp and nearby flammable material of 0.5 m be
maintained. The superficial temperature of the illuminated areas
must not exceed 40°C.
Contacts and connections
Contacts and clamping connections must be strain-relieved. The contacts must be established in such a
way as to rule out short circuits. Only use heat-resistant ceramic clamps or equivalent components for
this purpose. Insulation displacement termination are not allowed. Make sure that all lamps have
sufficient contact and are firmly seated. Do not modify lamps and lights!
Operation
When exchanging lamps, dimmers, fuses etc., only use components of the same construction and
power/voltage rating. Lamps with a higher capacity rating will heat up excessively, possibly leading to fire.
Halogen lamps may have a bleaching effect due to their UV portion. Use lamps equipped with a UV glass
screen if necessary. Recessed luminaires are only suited for use in dry rooms. We do not accept liability
for any uses in outdoor areas or rooms with high humidity. Never touch lamp with bare fingers, as the fat
of the skin may cause damage or reduce its service life. Lamps installed or repaired by laypersons must,
without exception, be accepted and commissioned by a qualified specialist.
