Problem: When you are using the port replicator, resuming normal operation
from hibernation or standby mode takes a long time.
Solution: If the Ethernet port is enabled, but the port replicator is not
connected to a LAN, resuming operation can take a long time. The computer
queries the Ethernet until the timeout timer stops the query. If you want to
access an Ethernet, connect the network cable. If you are not using the
network, disable the Ethernet port as follows:
For Windows XP:
1. Click Start Network Connections.
2. Right-click the Local Area Connection icon for Intel 8255x-based PCI
Ethernet Adapter (10/100); then click Disable.
For Windows 2000:
1. In the Control Panel, double-click the System icon.
2. Click the Hardware tab.
3. Click Device Manager....
4. Double-click Network Adapter.
5. Double-click Intel 8255x-based PCI Ethernet Adapter (10/100).
6. Select Do not use this device (disable) in the Device usage list box.
7. Click OK.
For Windows 98 or Windows Millenium Edition (Me):
1. In the Control Panel, double-click the System icon.
2. Click the Device Manager tab.
3. Double-click Network Adapter.
4. Double-click Intel EtherExpress PRO PCI Adapter.
5. Select the Disable in this hardware profile check box.
6. Click OK.
7. Close all windows.
8. Restart the computer.
Problem: The computer does not enter standby mode as set by the timer
under Windows 98.
For Windows 98:
The generic CD or DVD driver for Windows 98 accesses the internal CD or
DVD drive every 3 seconds to see if a CD or DVD inserted in the CD or DVD
drive. This prevents your computer from entering standby mode even after a
timeout. To prevent this from occurring, do the following:
1. Click Start.
2. Move the cursor to Settings and Control Panel.
3. Click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
