INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION Your Invacare Stratos Portable Plus Compressor Nebulizer System is the latest in portable compressor nebulizer technology. The purpose of the nebulizer system is to convert your liquid medication into a fine mist that can be drawn into your lungs to relieve your respiratory condition. The nebulizer system is very portable and lightweight. For even greater convenience, ask your dealer about the optional battery pack that is sold separately.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Compressor If the unit shuts down frequently or fails to start, you may have a low voltage situation. Low voltage can also be suspected when: • The compressor fails to start or motor does not get up to full power or speed. • Other motor operated appliances fail to operate properly or too many motor operated appliances are on same circuit. Extension Cords Make certain extension cord is in good condition.
HANDLING HANDLING Shipping Instructions The shipping container has been designed to assure protection of this device. If this device is to be reshipped by common carrier, it should be packed in the same carton. Unpacking 1. Check for any obvious damage to the carton or its contents. If damage is evident, DO NOT use. Notify carrier/Invacare or your local Invacare dealer. 2. Remove all the loose packing from the carton. 3. Carefully remove all the components from the carton.

SECTION 1—IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS DANGER Risk of electric shock. DO NOT disassemble. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel. FIRE RISK ‐ DO NOT use this product in an oxygen enriched environment (i.e – oxygen tent). To Reduce the Risk of Electrocution: ALWAYS unplug this product IMMEDIATELY after using. DO NOT use while bathing. DO NOT place or store product where it can fall or be pulled into a tub or sink. DO NOT reach for product that has fallen into water. Unplug IMMEDIATELY.
SECTION 1—IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS WARNING To Reduce the Risk of Burns, Electrocution, Fire and Injury to Persons: This product should NEVER be left unattended when plugged in. Close supervision is necessary when this product is used by, on, or near children and physically challenged individuals. Use this product only for its intended use as described in this manual and only with the prescribed medication. Use this product only under physician’s direction.
SECTION 1—IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS WARNING NEVER block the air openings of the product or place it on a soft surface, such as a bed or couch, where the air openings may be blocked. Keep the air openings free from lint, hair and the like. Blocked openings may cause the unit to shut down. Contact dealer IMMEDIATELY. The Stratos Portable Plus Compressor Nebulizer System uses the surrounding air to effectively administer the prescribed medication through the nebulizer.
SECTION 1—IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS WARNING When not administering treatment, keep out of the reach of small children. Some of the parts of the nebulizer system are small enough for children to swallow. The tubing may present a strangulation hazard NEVER touch the unit with wet hands. DO NOT pull on the power cord to unplug the unit from an electrical outlet. DO NOT overload wall outlets. Pump maintenance MUST be performed by a qualified service technician.
SECTION 2—OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS SECTION 2—OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS WARNING Remove the compressor from the carrying case before use. DO NOT operate unit without filter. Avoid operating this product in a dusty environment. Otherwise, premature compressor wear could occur. Setup NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 2.1 on page 18. 1. Wash your hands before you begin the treatment procedure. 2. Place the device on a table so that the controls can be reached when seated. 3.
SECTION 2—OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS WARNING DO NOT exceed the maximum allowed quantity of six ml of medication. The maximum capacity of the nebulizer medication cup is 6 ml. CAUTION NEVER pour medication into the compressor outlet. Damage to the compressor will occur. 5. Add the prescribed amount of medication to the cup of the nebulizer using an eyedropper, pre‐measured dose or ampoule (FIGURE 2.1). Eyedropper Nebulizer Cup FIGURE 2.1 Adding Medication 7.
SECTION 2—OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 10. To use with battery, charge for 6 hours. Refer to Conditioning the Battery on page 23. 11. To use the nebulizer system with the AC power cord, connect the power cord plug into the power outlet on the side of the nebulizer compressor system. Connect the power cord to the AC adapter and insert the plug from the AC adapter into the electrical outlet. 12.
SECTION 2—OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Sit in a relaxed and upright position. 2. Turn on the device by pushing the On/Off button. 3. Begin treatment by placing the nebulizer mouthpiece between your teeth and close your mouth. Inhale deeply and slowly as the aerosol begins to flow and then exhale slowly. SECTION 3—BATTERIES CAUTION In case of failure and/or malfunction, turn the unit off and read the operating manual. DO NOT attempt to open the plastic case or to replace any components. DO NOT short circuit battery contacts. Make sure battery contacts DO NOT come in contact with keys, coins or other metal objects. The battery has protection from overheating and will not operate if temperature is 104ºF (40ºC) or higher. Allow the battery to cool before restarting.
SECTION 3—BATTERIES Conditioning the Battery NOTE: The definition of conditioning the battery is simply charging the battery for a full six hour cycle before the initial use of the product. 1. Disconnect the battery from the compressor. 2. Connect the power cable (AC) or auto adapter cable (DC) to the battery. 3. Charge the battery for a full six hour cycle. The orange light will indicate if the battery is properly charging. Battery charging to full capacity is dependent upon many factors.
SECTION 3—BATTERIES Using the Battery NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 3.1 on page 24. 1. Fit the front hook on the battery top into the recess on the bottom of the compressor. 2. Press the battery and compressor together until the release button on the front of the battery clicks. 3. Gently pull the compressor and battery pack in opposite directions to ensure the tabs have seated properly. 4.
SECTION 3—BATTERIES Charging the Battery NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 3.1 on page 24. 1. Press in the release button on the front of the battery pack and separate the battery from the compressor. 2. Connect the power cable (AC) to the AC adapter and cable provided with your STRATOS Portable Plus Compressor. 3. Connect the AC adapter and cable to the battery. 4. Plug the power cable into the appropriate power source. The ORANGE light will turn on indicating that the charging cycle has begun.
SECTION 4—CLEANING AND DISINFECTING SECTION 4—CLEANING AND DISINFECTING Following the cleaning instructions after each use will prevent any remaining medication in the bottle from drying and causing the device to nebulize ineffectively. Cleaning the Nebulizer WARNING To prevent possible risk of infection due to contamination, follow these instructions: • Clean the nebulizer before initial operations. • Clean the nebulizer after each aerosol treatment. • ALWAYS use fresh cleaning solution.
SECTION 4—CLEANING AND DISINFECTING 2. Disassemble nebulizer chamber by turning counterclockwise and separating. 3. Fill two plastic containers or bowls: A. Washing: Hot water/detergent solution. B. Soaking: Hot water/vinegar solution (one part vinegar to three parts water). 4. Thoroughly clean the nebulizer and mouthpiece in hot water/detergent solution. 5. Remove from the water/detergent solution and rinse with clear hot tap water. 6. Soak in hot water/vinegar solution for 30 minutes. 7.
SECTION 4—CLEANING AND DISINFECTING Cleaning the Mouthpiece 1. Boil the mouthpiece in water for a maximum of five minutes or autoclave at a maximum of 121° C for ten minutes. 2. Allow the mouthpiece to air dry. 3. Once dry, the mouthpiece may be stored inside the nebulizer top. Changing the Nebulizer The nebulizer is designed for single patient use. The nebulizer MUST be replaced after a long period of inactivity, or when it is obstructed by dry medication, dust, etc.
SECTION 4—CLEANING AND DISINFECTING WARNING Unplug unit before cleaning. DO NOT clean using abrasive cleaners. DO NOT submerge in water to clean. Clean outer case with damp cloth. CAUTION If fluid gets into the area around the compressor outlet, wipe the area off with a dry cloth and let the nebulizer sit on its front end for five minutes. Then run the compressor for two minutes with no nebulizer or tubing adapter in place. 1. Make sure the compressor is off and is not plugged into any power source. 2.
SECTION 5—MAINTENANCE SECTION 5—MAINTENANCE DANGER DO NOT remove the compressor case. Failure to comply could result in electrical shock. All disassembly MUST be performed by an authorized Invacare service center. WARNING All maintenance on your Invacare Stratos Portable Plus Nebulizer system MUST be performed by an authorized Invacare service center. Maintenance manuals and parts lists are available through Invacare upon request.
SECTION 5—MAINTENANCE Storage 1. Put the nebulizer and mouthpiece in the carrying case. 2. Coil the air tubing. 3. Wrap the AC cord in a coil. 4. Zip the bag closed. 5. Store the device in a safe area. NOTE: Store the repackaged device in a dry area. DO NOT place other objects on top of the repackaged device. Filter Care The accessible filter MUST be replaced after one month of use or when it turns GREY. The filter should be replaced if the nebulizer has been in storage for three months or longer.
SECTION 6—TROUBLESHOOTING SECTION 6—TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM SOLUTION Turn the unit OFF for a minimum of 40 Nebulizer overheats. The minutes to allow the nebulizer to cool. nebulizer has an internal thermal protector to prevent the device from overheating. If the internal temperature reaches the preset level, the unit will automatically shut down, and the power LED will turn RED. The nebulizer does not operate. Check all power sources to the nebulizer. Push the ON/OFF button again.
SECTION 6—TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM SOLUTION Nebulizer does not work, The thermal protector has been activated due and the light indicator is red. to: a. The device operating outside the conditions outlined in this manual. b. The device has been operating near heat sources or in hot environments. Allow the nebulizer to cool down for a minimum of 40 minutes. Wait until the RED light turns off before turning the nebulizer on again. Optional battery is not working optimally.

This warranty is extended only to the original purchaser who purchases this product when new and unused from Invacare Corporation or a dealer. This warranty is not extended to any other person or entity and is not transferable or assignable to any subsequent purchaser or owner.

Upon receiving notice of an alleged defect in a product, Invacare will issue a serialized return authorization.
THE FOREGOING EXPRESS WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVE AND IN LIEU OF ANY OTHER WARRANTIES WHATSOEVER, WHETHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND THE SOLE REMEDY FOR VIOLATIONS OF ANY WARRANTY WHATSOEVER, SHALL BE LIMITED TO REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT PURSUANT TO THE TERMS CONTAINED HEREIN. THE APPLICATION OF ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY WHATSOEVER SHALL NOT EXTEND BEYOND THE DURATION OF THE EXPRESS WARRANTY PROVIDED HEREIN.
