GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS: DO NOT, under any circumstances, cut or remove the round grounding prong from any plug used with or for Invacare products. Some devices are equipped with three-prong (grounding) plugs for protection against possible shock hazards.
GENERAL GUIDELINES PROCEDURE 1 WARNING There are a number of sources of relatively intense electromagnetic fields in the everyday environment. Some of these sources are obvious and easy to avoid. Others are not apparent and exposure is unavoidable. However, we believe that by following the warnings listed below, your risk to EMI will be minimized.
PROCEDURE 1 G E N E R A L G U I D E L I N E S GENERAL GUIDELINES Stairways SAFETY/HANDLING OF WHEELCHAIRS WARNING DO NOT attempt to move an occupied power wheelchair between floors using a stairway. Use an elevator to move an occupied power wheelchair between floors. If moving a power wheelchair between floors by means of a stairway, the occupant MUST be removed and transported independently of the power wheelchair.
GENERAL GUIDELINES PROCEDURE 1 Transferring to and From Other Seats Percentage of Weight Distribution WARNING WARNING ALWAYS turn the wheelchair power OFF and engage the motor locks/clutches to prevent the wheels from moving BEFORE attempting to transfer in or out of the wheelchair. Also, make sure every precaution is taken to reduce the gap distance aligning both rear casters parallel with the object you are transferring onto.
PROCEDURE 1 GENERAL GUIDELINES G E N E R A L G U I D E L I N E S Position wheelchair as close as possible to the desired object. Point rear casters rearward to create the longest possible wheelbase. Reach back only as far as your arm will extend without changing your sitting position. Reaching, Bending - Backward WARNING DO NOT lean over the top of the back upholstery. This will change your center of gravity and may cause you to tip over.

Remove the four (4) flat head screws and barrel nuts that secure the removable footboard to the two (2) footplate clamps. Flat Head Screw 2. Move the removable footboard to one (1) of the four (4) positions. T ON R F 3. Reinstall the four (4) flat head screws and barrel nuts that secure the removable footboard to the two (2) footplate clamps. Tighten securely.

Depress the push pins on the two (2) support tubes on the removable footboard plate. Two (2) Large Washers 2. While performing STEP 1, grasp the removable footboard plate and pull it away from the two (2) support tubes on the removable footboard mounting brackets.

Pull the detent pin out from the support assembly. Height (FIGURE 13) 2. While pulling detent pin, insert the legrest tube of the one piece footboard assembly into the support assembly. 1. If changing the mounting orientation of the pivot bracket, perform the following steps (FIGURE 20): 1. The pivot bracket can be mounted in a FORWARD or REARWARD position. For further calfpad depth adjustment, the pivot bracket can be removed. See Note 2A. l Remove the two (2) hub caps from the pivot bracket.

PROCEDURE 3 FRONT RIGGINGS Footrest Angle Adjustment Relative to the Horizontal Position of the Front Shroud FOOTREST ANGLE ADJUSTMENTS (FIGURE 23) F R O N T R I G G I N G S NOTE: The footrest is factory set to be centered between the stabilizer assemblies. During shipping and daily use the footrest can become shifted to one side or the other.

PROCEDURE 4 ARMS Positioning Flip Back Armrests for Use Armrest 1. Make sure the flip back armrest release lever is in the UP (HORIZONTAL) position. Socket Screw 2. Install the flip back armrest into the front arm socket. 3. Lock flip back armrest by pressing flip back armrest release lever into the DOWN (VERTICAL) position. A R M S 4. Lift up on flip back armrest to make sure the armrest is locked in place. 5. Repeat STEPS 1-4 for opposite flip back armrest, if necessary.
CAPTAIN'S SEAT/POSITIONING STRAP PROCEDURE 5 REPLACING SEAT POSITIONING STRAP This Procedure Includes the Following: Adjusting Captain's Seat Replacing Seat Positioning Strap Adjustable Seat Back Angle Model (FIGURE 2) 1. ELECTRONICS PROCEDURE 6 REPOSITIONING BATTERY CHARGER CONNECTOR (FIGURE 3) FUSE REPLACEMENT (FIGURE 4) NOTE: This procedure applies to wheelchairs equipped with the Mark IV controller ONLY. NOTE: This procedure applies to wheelchairs equipped with the Mark IV controller ONLY. 1. Remove the front shroud. Refer to REMOVING/INSTALLING THE SHROUDS in PROCEDURE 9 of this manual. 1. Remove the hex bolt from the T-nut that secures the battery charger connector bracket to the wheelchair. 2.
PROCEDURE 7 RETAINING STRAP 9. Feed the NEW battery box retaining strap through the slot on the INSIDE of the battery box tray. This Procedure Includes the Following: R E T A I N I N G S T R A P Replacing Battery Box Retaining Strap WARNING NOTE: The NEW battery box retaining strap should pass UNDER the battery box tray. After ANY adjustments, repair or service and BEFORE use, make sure all attaching hardware is tightened securely - otherwise injury or damage may result. 10.

PROCEDURE 8 WHEELS ADJUSTING THE STABILIZER (FIGURE 5) Towards Outside of Wheelchair W H E E L S 1. With the batteries and the user in the wheelchair, grasp the swing arm and pull up. Clearance between the stabilizer wheel and the surface should be 1/8-inch or greater. If the clearance is less than 1/8-inch contact Invacare Dealer for service. See DETAIL "A". SHROUDS PROCEDURE 9 Removing Rear Shroud and Rear Storage Compartment This Procedure Includes the Following: Removing/Installing Shrouds NOTE: The rear storage compartment is available on wheelchairs NOT equipped with weight shift basic tilt only. 1. Lift up on rear shroud and remove from wheelchair. 2. Turn the two (2) 1/4-turn bolts that secure the rear storage compartment to the wheelchair frame COUNTERCLOCKWISE. 3. Remove rear storage compartment from wheelchair.
PROCEDURE 10 RECLINER This Procedure Includes the Following: Recliner Operation Replacing Back or Headrest Upholstery R E C L I N E R Adjusting Back or Headrest Upholstery Handle RECLINER OPERATION (FIGURE 1) WARNING ALWAYS make sure that the wheelchair is stable BEFORE using the recliner option. NEVER operate the wheelchair while in any recline o position over 105 RELATIVE TO THE SEAT FRAME.

Before reinstalling the NEW or existing battery(ies), clean the baking soda from the battery box(es) or battery(ies).
BATTERIES PROCEDURE 11 CONNECTING BATTERY CABLES CAUTION When connecting the battery cables to the battery(ies), the battery cable(s) MUST be connected to the battery terminal(s)/post(s) as shown in DETAIL “A” or DETAIL “B” of FIGURE 3 (depending on battery type), otherwise damage to the battery cable may result when installing battery terminal caps. WARNING NEVER allow any of your tools and/or battery cable(s) to contact BOTH battery terminal(s)/post(s) at the same time.

BATTERIES PROCEDURE 11 BATTERY CLAMP METHOD (FIGURES 4, 5 AND 6). 2. Install battery clamp covers onto battery cables as follows (FIGURE 5): CAUTION A. RED battery clamp cover onto RED battery cable. The battery clamp of the POSITIVE (+) battery terminal/post MUST be mounted in the position shown in FIGURE 4, otherwise the battery box top cannot be installed properly. B. BLACK battery clamp cover onto BLACK battery cable.
PROCEDURE 11 BATTERIES 10. If necessary, charge the battery(ies). Refer to CHARGING BATTERIES in this procedure of the manual. 9. Install the battery box(es) into the wheelchair. Refer to INSTALLING/REMOVING BATTERY BOX(ES) in this procedure of the manual. B A T T E R I E S NOTE: New Battery(ies) MUST be fully charged BEFORE using, otherwise the life of the battery(ies) will be reduced.
BATTERIES PROCEDURE 11 WHEN TO CHARGE BATTERIES (FIGURE 7) CHARGING BATTERIES (FIGURE 8) WARNING It is advantageous to recharge daily rather than only when necessary. In fact, a battery’s life is extended if the charge level is maintained well above a low condition. MKIV RII Joystick Never attempt to recharge the batteries by attaching cables directly to the battery terminals or clamps. Always use the recharging plug located on the controller OR the side/rear of the wheelchair frame.
PROCEDURE 11 BATTERIES B. For PRONTOR2 Models - the battery charger rate decreases to a "trickle charge". B A T T E R I E S NOTE: If performing the charging procedures independently, READ and CAREFULLY follow the individual instructions for each charger (supplied or purchased). NOTE: If charging instructions are not supplied, consult a qualified service technician for proper procedures.
BATTERIES PROCEDURE 11 REPLACING BATTERIES 3. Cut the tie wraps around the terminal caps/covers. 4. Slide the terminal cap/cover up the wire to expose the battery terminal. WARNING Most batteries are not sold with instructions. However, warnings are frequently noted on the cell caps. Read them carefully, otherwise injury or damage can occur. 5. Clean the terminals and inside the battery clamps by using a battery cleaning tool, wire brush, or medium grade sand paper.
PROCEDURE 11 BATTERIES REAR OF CHAIR B A T T E R I E S 3. Position the battery boxes onto the battery tray in the following order: A. TWO (2) connector battery box in FRONT so that the "open" ends of the connectors are facing the REAR of the chair. Rear Battery Box (One (1) Connector) Retaining Strap Clip Retaining Strap Front Battery Box Lead (To Wiring Harness) B. ONE (1) connector battery box in REAR so that the flying lead is on the RIGHT side of the wheelchair.
