DO NOT overinflate the tires. Failure to follow these suggestions may cause the tire to explode and cause bodily harm. Recommended tire pressure is listed on the side of the tire. Replacement of a pneumatic tire or tube MUST be performed by a qualified technician.
SAFETY/HANDLING SAFETY/HANDLING OF WHEELCHAIRS Safety and Handling of the wheelchair requires the close attention of the wheelchair user as well as the assistant. This manual points out the most common procedures and techniques involved in the safe operation and maintenance of the wheelchair. It is important to practice and master these safe techniques until you are comfortable in maneuvering around the frequently encountered architectural barriers.
SAFETY/HANDLING REACHING, LEANING AND BENDING - FORWARD CENTER OF GRAVITY S A F E T Y Position the front casters so that they are extended as far forward as possible and engage wheel locks. SAFETY/HANDLING Tipping - Curbs: Method 1 - Wheelchair without Step Tubes TIPPING WARNING This method requires two (2) assistants. The second assistant should be positioned at the front of the wheelchair lifting upward on a non-removable (non-detachable) part of the wheelchair frame when lifting the wheelchair and stabilizing the wheelchair when the wheelchair is being lowered to the ground. DO NOT tip the wheelchair without assistance.

Inasmuch as the SEAT POSITIONING STRAP is an option on this wheelchair (You may order with or without the Seat Positioning Strap), Invacare strongly recommends ordering the Seat Positioning Strap as an additional safeguard for the wheelchair user.

SAFETY INSPECTION CHECK LIST SAFETY INSPECTION CHECKLIST S A F E T Y I N S P E C T I O N NOTE: Every six (6) months take your wheelchair to a qualified technician for a thorough inspection and servicing. Regular cleaning will reveal loose or worn parts and enhance the smooth operation of your wheelchair. To operate properly and safely, your wheelchair must be cared for just like any other vehicle. Routine maintenance will extend the life and efficiency of your wheelchair.

Lay the assembly on a flat surface to simplify this procedure. Heel Loop Replacement Elevating Legrest Assembly Installation 1.

To release the legrest, push the legrest release handle toward the inside of the wheelchair (facing the front of the wheelchair) and swing the legrest assembly to the outside of the wheelchair. ARMS PROCEDURE 2 Whelchairs Equipped With Height Adjustment Knobs (FIGURE 2) This Procedure Includes the Following: Adjusting Armrest Height - Adjustable Height Arms Only Removing or Replacing Armrest Using or Replacing Flip-back Armrest A R M S WARNING Make sure the height adjustment knob is in the locked position before using the wheelchair. 1. Unlock the armrest by pulling the height adjustment knob on the front of the armrest and twisting it 1/4turn into the UNLOCKED position (FIGURE 1). 2.
ARMS PROCEDURE 2 REMOVING OR REPLACING ARMREST (FIGURE 2) WARNING Make sure the armrest is securely locked BEFORE using the wheelchair. 1. Press in the armrest release button located on the armrest. 2. Remove the armrest from the arm sockets by pulling straight up. 3. Replace the armrest by reversing STEPS 1-2. Armrest Release Button Arm Socket Replacing 1. Perform STEPS 1-2 above to flip the armrest back. 2.
PROCEDURE 3 SEAT AND BACK REPLACING THE SLIP-ON BACK UPHOLSTERY (FIGURE 2) This Procedure Includes the Following: S E A T A N D B A C K Assembling The Back to the Wheelchair Replacing the Slip-on Back Upholstery 1. Remove the two (2) phillips screws and washers that secure the existing back upholstery to the back canes. Replacing the Screw-on Back Upholstery 2. Remove the screw, coved washers and locknut that secure one (1) back cane to the wheelchair frame.
SEAT AND BACK Washers PROCEDURE 3 5. Install the new seat upholstery onto the wheelchair. Make sure to line up the mounting holes in the seat extension tubes and seat extension spacers with the new seat upholstery. Refer to REPLACING THE SEAT UPHOLSTERY in this section of the manual. Back Upholstery 6. Install plug buttons into the ends of the seat extension spacers.
PROCEDURE 3 SEAT AND BACK TRACER DLX (BUILT BEFORE MARCH 13, 2000) NOTE: There are no pivot links on the Tracer DLX. b. Reinstall the button head screws and locknuts that secure the pivot links to the crossbraces. S E A T a. Pull crossbrace assembly up and away from the main body of the wheelchair. Seat guides will stay attached to rear canes. TRACER DLX (BUILT BEFORE MARCH 13, 2000) a. Position the crossbraces onto the seat guide. A N D 3.
REAR WHEELS PROCEDURE 4 This Procedure Includes the Following: Quick-Release Axles (FIGURE 2) Removing/Installing the Rear Wheels NOTE: Quick Release Axles are available on Non-Recliner wheelchairs ONLY. Adjusting the Quick-Release Axle 1. Push in the tip of the quick-release axle (with wheel) and pull the axle out through the opening in the center of the rear wheel and axle spacer. Remove the rear wheel from the wheelchair. 1. Remove rear wheel and quick-release axle from the wheelchair. Refer to REMOVING/INSTALLING THE REAR WHEELS in this section of the manual. 2. Depress detent pin in the quick-release axle and slide axle through the wheel hub. 3.

Ensure the wheel lock is in the open (unlocked) position. 8. If 5/32 and 5/16-inches measurement can not be achieved, remove the bolt and locknut that secure the wheel lock to the wheelchair and mount the wheel lock in one (1) of two (2) mounting positions. 9.
PROCEDURE 7 SEAT-TO-FLOOR HEIGHT This Procedure Includes the Following: S E A T T O F L O O R H E I G H T Changing Seat-To-Floor Height WARNING After ANY adjustments, repair or service and BEFORE use, make sure all attaching hardware is tightened securely - otherwise injury or damage may result. CHANGING SEAT-TO-FLOOR HEIGHT (FIGURE 1 AND 2) WARNING When changing the seat-to-floor height, the height of the anti-tippers must be adjusted as well.
SEAT-TO-FLOOR HEIGHT PROCEDURE 7 WARNING TRACER SX RECLINER ONLY: Mount the rear wheels in the Rear Wheel Offset Bracket ONLY. NEVER reposition the rear wheels to the forward position, stability of the wheelchair will decrease, and injury or damage may result.

With the Telescoping I.V. rod in the lowest position, align the hole of the outer tube with the phillips screw of the inner tube. Remove phillips screw and set aside. Height Adjustment Assembly Hole 2. Remove the inner tube from the outer tube. Upper Attachment (Shown rotated 180°) Outer Tube NOTE: Take note of the position and orientation of the height adjustment assembly before removing.
